It may be the fact that I'm from idaho, but I don't really consider this to be Jewelry. But if it is, It's 100% the real deal not that zirconium crap.

ntsqd, are you questining the accuracy of the aftermarket gauges? Rightfully so I think. I was just reading machine design at work and they sell top of the line pressure transducers, for like 500 bucks. There is no way a 50$ autometer gauge is going to be as accurate as that. However it would be intresting to put both types of gauges on a manifold and compare readings, and then see how the reading change over time.
I know from personal experience that DDC test cells get all the pressure and temp sensors calibrated something like every 4 months. So even the superexpensive s*** gets out of whack after some time.

Of the gauges pictured I would worry the most about the pyrometer, those things dont last very long. When DDC does engine testing there is uasually one in each exhaust manifold runner and after a few weeks they start to read like 3 million degrees, the thermocouples just dont last in that kind of enviroment, and gas engine exhaust temps are even higher than diesels.

Though I don't think that a vehicle needs the kind of accuracy and repeatability used in a test cell, that is exactly my point. That the aftermarket gauges are not something to rely on. To the best of my knowledge there is no published data for their accuracy and repeatability. Yet all but the lowliest gauge, and even some of those in McMaster-Carr's listing have those specs listed right up front.

The aftermarket gauges might have good specs, but unless they are published there is no way for the average person to know that info.

Why in the hell would you want a light when you could have a gauge?

I thought I was talking about a light? NOT a gauge? As for me, IDK. I think I just read that somewhere.

Can the signal that goes to the light, also go to a gauge?

My OE dash has a "turbo" labeled green LED.

Not usually. Lights use switches (on/off), gauges need senders (variable output).

ntsqd,
your correct 100%. The automotive aftermarket is so vague in terms of the infomation it releases. Even if they did release data of some kind what way can you be certin that its true and not made up or altered in some way.

For what its worth I have used a couple of autometer boost/vac. gauges and they "seem" to work fine, but who knows for sure?

Before I buy again from autometer I will have to call them and ask for their gauge specs, I cant wait to hear what the salesman is going to say.

cheers

not done yet

okay, so i still have this extra plug problem.

the ECU has all the plugs plugged into it, no problem, but the engine wiring harness has one plug that does not match one of the plugs from the dash harness. the engine harness is the 22RTE and the dash harness is the stock 22re. Can I splice some wires or do I need to swap the engine harness for a 22re harness to match the 22re dash harness?? what's the solution? Is pulling the harness as much of a pain as it looks?

Pictures?
Does your dash have a tach?
I'm pretty sure all rte's had the tach.
