Hey guys,
I have built a few trucks over the years, hilux crawler, 61 series then a kit car however I haven’t had a project for ages, I’m about to have a shed again so what better time to get another. This however will be the most challenging by a long way.
I have picked up an old bj43 in rather ah, experienced condition...... there is a rear axle with lsd in it.

Did these come with dual front shocks factory or is that an upgrade?
I have a 70 series front axle on the way for it again lsd in that as well. I have no idea of what diff ratios in them are but if they don’t match the original diff from the truck is sitting there so can get the r&p from that if need be.

Is that a BJ43 or BJ42? Looks like a short wheel base. My guess it is a 82 BJ42. Looks like quite a project. Wish we had some of the models other parts of the world had imported here in US. Will be looking for updates.

Sorry yes bj42.
Apparently the turbo kit was fitted very early in its life as well.
I do have my work cut out for me.
I have been trying to work out the year but no luck so far, why an 82?

Insert dash started 10/81 (82 model) on RHD. The alignment of the transfer case shifter looks to be for a four speed. 10/82 (83 model) most BJ42s had a five speed. Not sure about New Zealand but many markets had the five speed almost standard on the B series diesel for the last few years of the 40 series.

Unloaded her, what have I got myself in for lol. I have a line on some vehicles for parts, the only problem is they are in a part of the country that makes it a bit harder to pick them up. But if I can get them it would be worth it.

Soooo I have arranged to buy 3 parts trucks.
1 is/was an early 40
An 83 40, tub looks to be alot better than mine.
And the last is a 45 with apparently some ok doors on it.
can anyone tell me if 75 doors will fit a 42?

The I’mplan is a friend will pick them up, I will fly down to his place and we will package up the good bits down to one trailer load then work out getting it up here.

Time for an update, My shed is still being built by a slow builder but due to a public holiday I as able to take a 4 day weekend so at the last minute the decision was made to go and pick up the cruisers.
After work on Wednesday we got the van loaded up and I grabbed a couple hours sleep, up at midnight and headed south to catch the ferry.
At 4am I got a test to say the ferry may be delayed followed at 5am on to say out 7am check intake was now 9:45 am.
We (my wonderfull wife and 5 month old daughter) grabbed a bit of shut eye.

We made it to the south island and headed through to stay with my parents in the sounds.

Next day was an early start, through to nelson, picked up the one way trailer hire and through to Collingwood to start turning 3 trucks into one trailer load.

We spent 4 hours removing anything useful off the 2 worst ones and loaded up everything,
We ended up with early doors, a bonnet, 7 original rims, a early cluster, spare heater, 2 windscreen surrounds, a 75 series rear glass and quarter glass, 2 extra sets of axels and other small parts.

Loaded up we headed back to my parents batch for Friday evening.

After a relaxing day Saturday we headed out to Blenheim to stay with family for the night before a 7am Sunday morning ferry.

While waiting to load on the ferry some load adjustments moving everything back about a foot made a massive difference to the way it towed.
Landing in Wellington about lunchtime my phone nav was trying to take me the long way home, we soon discovered this was due to traffic jams, luckily we were able to avoid this and head the way google maps recommended, this made for a long day and some nasty slow hills but finally after almost 2000 KM's we made it home with a slightly grumpy child :)

Is the red one going to turn into a parts truck now? The other one looks in much better condition
yep the red one will donate many parts, the white one is in a lot better condition but has been raided for all the small parts, the red one ins complete just rusty

Progress has been slow as my shed has been getting built, that’s now finished.
I had a big rush to get it fitted out as I was meant to have a spinal fusion on Friday week ago but this damn Covid-19 had other plans, and then I now have shingles 🤙 so great time.
Now we are on a 4 week lock down so time to make a start.
first were stripping the red one down, it’s had a rebuild some time along time ago with a few fibreglass parts.
tomorow should have the rub and engine off the chassis and it can all get packed away and bring the white one into the shed.
Im quite lucky that my wife has been out helping.

One thing I did notice that I’m wondering if someone help with, the transfer leave is in different sides of the shifter on both trucks. I thought both had 4 speeds in them. Why would the hi/low leaver be in different sides?

Another day with some progress. The red one has been torn all the way down, only the gearbox is on the chassis and that will come off tomorow. Body is next to the shed and all the dash parts will be removed next.
The white body one is now in the shed and with my wife’s help we pulled the front off, a few bits off the engine. The engine won’t turn off the crank with a big bar but the gearbox also appears to be a bit locked up from water getting into it so I’ll pull the box off and see if the engine moves.
A good clean out and there’s not to much rust on the body to repair. There is a couple small spots on the chassis to repair.

Can anyone help with this decal, Im assuming it would have had a "Do Not" for these things.
I can't seam to find what it would've looked like originally.
