So I just got a 86 mini with a 22re. Truck was running pretty well, no problems starting, decent power. Anyway I still wanted to do a full tune-up, so I adj. vavles, plugs, cap rotor, wires, timing, oil change, pvc. Now its all back together and the truck does not want to start without some poking. WTF.:crybaby: I have gone back thru everything and it all looks tight. Did find a small leak at the exhaust manifold but that should not be a cause of this??

SWITCH SIGNALS
IDL (tps) CONTACTS OFF, NEUTRAL START SWITCH OFF, A/C SWITCH "ON" SIGNAL TO ECU

WITH DIAGNOSTIC CHECK CONNECTOR SHORTED

--A/C SWITCH/CIRCUIT

--A/C AMPLIFIER

--TPS/CIRCUIT

--NEUTRAL START SWITCH/CIRCUIT

--ECU

This is the code reading I get. ???

the first couple of times I give it gas and it stalls but by the third time cranking and a little gas it starts--barely. Then if it stays running and I give it some more gas it begins to idle up to 800/900 and stays there and idles ok. When I take it for a drive I have little to no acceleration up hill.

Double check that you dont have 1 of the spark plug wires swapped. Getting even 1 wrong will do exactly what you're describing.

You should have left the valves alone.

Funny, my '86 is throwing the same exact code. It intermittently doesn't have power, not as bad as you're describing though. I believe that my TPS is out of tune, the IDL circuit specifically. When I get some time I'm going to be checking it with a multimeter. And please, post up once you figure yours out, I'll do the same!

Thanks everyone. I found out that the engine needs to be really hot (not just warm) to set the timing . So timing and valves are good. Now I just need to work on the trouble codes.
