The engine is running..... ;p Sorry, I couldn't resist that one....

Seriously, you could put a temp sensor under the hood like I have, it gives you an idea of how hot things are under there.

As for that pinging question, either higher octane (premium gas), meth like Cdan, or try and adjust your timing.

So the answer is, "the temp sensor under my hood indicates that the SC is heating up."

I don't have one one of these, so the question was related to whether you were seeing an increase in engine temperature.

Exhaust Gas Temp gauge is what I would consider necessary if you intend to work the s/c more than mall cruising. Ideally you'd have it installed prior to the s/c in order to get your trucks "base line" temp readings under a variety of conditions. Then once you've installed the s/c you be able to evaluate how hot it's running under load, sitting in traffic in PHX in July, etc. Since that 's not what most folks do, I believe keeping it under 1200 deg F, and 1400 deg F for very short duration under heavy load, is what most have told me is acceptable. I've not seen temps for those that have the H20/meth injection but that should allow it to run even cooler. Adding an intercooler would assist too. Any way you slice it though, I personally think it's a bad idea to just slap a s/c on a truck the way it comes from TRD and call it done. A boost and egt gauge should be added, along with the general maintenance issues of making sure the fuel delivery, air delivery and cooling system are all in top-notch spec, correct spark plugs, timing, compression, exhaust, etc.

Just my thoughts though.

You're completely misinterpreting my inquiry. I'm not talking about running out of power. I'm talking about too much power applied at an inopportune moment due to lag then sudden boost.

Do yourself a favor if you have a sc truck, and never drive a turbo one, even in the rocks ;)

The turbo should lug down to 400 rpm, and pull cleanly from there to 1200rpm, where max boost should start to appear, then it should start to boogy to red line if you keep the foot in.

This is no more uncontrollable with throttle application that the standard 4.5's power range though, unlike pissy litttle 4 cly jobs with heaps of boost and low compression which pull like a 2lt with no compression until bost arrives around 2000rpm, then its like someone flicked a switch, the 4.5 is the opposite to this, if this is what you mean for "whats it like in the rocks".

Relax,
they are coming, after just shifting house, shifting workshop, organising xmas trip, and introducing some new products, buying land to build the new house, and just shifting house again, after a title hold up on our new land, things the last 2 months have been a litttle hectic.

All good things take time :flipoff2:
