My older brother has been into RC planes and Choppers for a few years now and I've caught the bug. He's currently building me a EXI 450 Chopper, but that is for another thread.

We went to AbellHobby in Billings today and I test drove an HPI Blitz 2wd and it was pretty sweet, and hella fast. Only downside was it wasn't waterproof. So I took a look at a Traxxas Slash as well as the Stampede and Rustler. I don't have the coin for a 4wd version, so I'm considering the 2wd version. I am brand new to these RC's so I was wondering if you guys had any input on whether or not these trucks are any good and which you would recommend. I have plenty of acreage to build my own track if I want. If you have any of these trucks post up photos and recommendations. When I finally purchase one I'll post up some photos and maybe some vids. I plan on buying a micro camera for vids.

Depends on what you want to do with it. I got really bored with my T-Maxx quick. All you can do is drive it around really fast. You can't even go very far in one direction or you'll outrun your radio. Then you start jumping it. Then you start breaking it.

RC crawlers are way more fun.

Fast is over rated.

LOL, ok i can see that. BUT, i imagine if you had the right place to run it and a upgraded powerful radio/receiver, they could be a lot of fun. Like at the beach or on dunes, open areas.

As far as jumping it and breaking it... yea, that's gottta suck.

You asked. I answered. You don't have to convince me of anything.

I don't care how tough they are. Going fast in circles gets old quick.

YMMV

True but up here I have wide open spaces. 20 acres of pasture will definitley beat a shortcourse track, or any big city street. I did like the looks of the AX10 crawler they had but that s*** is way out of my price range.

Building a track might be fun if you had some folks you could race with.

For sure. My brother and my buddy plan on getting one as well, that is if their is a Christmas bonus in the cards this year. I've got some natural berms in the pasture and a tiller that I could use to turn it to dirt or I could just mow the grass real short there. I would probably incorporate some rough gravel areas to make it interesting as well as some kicker jumps.

Is 2.4Ghz the way to go on these rc cars? Also I know there are different battery packs that you can use in these things as they are LiPo ready, what is the real benefit of going to LiPo from the standard battery?

you can only use Lipo batteries if the speed controller can handle it. If not, you will burn things up. The advantage of lipo is lighter weight and smaller package with a lot of power. But they do require being smart with them. You need a good charger to charge them and you need to balance charge them.

any suggestions on a good charger for LiPo's? Like I said I believe the slash comes LiPo ready. Not sure if that means I'll have to upgrade the ESC or not.

Wow those are great deals. I was going to go with a 2wd but thought what the hell there are plenty of huge clay hills where I wheel out by the river that I would love to climb with it and 2wd just wouldn't cut it.

here it is. Gotta wait for the battery to charge. Can't wait to get a peak charger.
