Picking up this thread to add some fresh information.
I just returned from a 3 weeks trip to Iceland and Färöer, covering F-roads, the Westfjords and the Ringroad.

- You need to declare your vehicle for import at Login - Temporary vehicle import - https://vehicles.tollur.is/registrations/ Thenprocess is fully digital.
- An import- / road tax is due: For stays under 30 days it is per day, for stays over 30 days it is by milage, thus you need to submit your odo reading on arruval and after leaving. The odo reading can be added to the form last minute / when you arrive at the ferry or shipping point.Of course, also the type and age of the vehicle are parameters to the tax.For 23d my tax ON MY 1985 BJ73 was 170€. .
- Caution! Special regulations apply for imports from countries outside the European Economic Zone! You need to demonstrate valid insurance: Green card. (For vehicles from the EU no separate insurance validation is needed)

- Iceland is fully digital. Most services amd goods can be paid by credit card. I did not use any cash in 3 weeks..
- It is worthwhile registering with some payment services, e.g.
- Orkan (fuel price discount)
- Parka (parking, bookings)
- Tunneling.fo (Färöer tunnel toll)
- Big shout out to those guys.. The best descriptions on F-roads on the net..

- Vegargerðin I also available as an App.
- Road weather conditionscan be found here.. Also a great source to see available F-roads and their numbers.

- Google Maps is not a good source in Iceland as the smaller roads are only visible at a very high zoom factor, making overview impossible. Happy.cz was my map of choice.

- Gasvaktin - https://gasvaktin.is/map/ (also available as an App)
- ORKAN is a common petrol company in Iceland. They provide a membership-registration that includes a discount on the fuel price. Credit card can be registered and a barcode is provided that can be scanned at the pump. Payment is deducted automatically.
- Other companies have membership programs, too, but only provide 'points' to be collected... Not practical for short term visitors..
- Unfortunately, most attractions in Iceland come with high parking fees, I.p. on the ring road. Usually 1000KR minimum.
- PARKA App can be used for easy payment for parking, but also to book various other services, e.g. campsites.
- It is important to check the weather every day. It may changd within minutes, though.

- Veður is the App of the Icelandic national weather service.
- campsites can be found here: Happy Camper
- Usually, no prebooking is required.
- Often there is not even anybody at the reception: Just enter, find a slot, pitch up. Somebody will come to collect the fee, or see reception at office hours later.
- We did prebookings however for the first and last campsite at port, because everybody on the ferry will show up there.
