So myself and a few others on here have been dealing with an issue where the transmission will not be in 1st or 2nd gear at low speed, and when you go to accelerate again you will get a 200 RPM jump before it goes into gear again. This only happens at slow speeds once you are already moving and is most noticeable when lightly accelerating after you have coasted for a little bit.

Possible fix:
After reading through the FSM I found cable adjustment specs for the A442F. Once I adjusted my cable to the low end of the spec my transmission feels like it has lost the flare at low speeds. I have my cable adjusted so the metal stopper that is clamped to the inner cable is almost touching the red/orange rubber cover. One thing I did notice is that the shifts are not as firm as they were when I had more space between the stopper and the rubber cover but I'll take the softer shifts over the annoying low speed flare.

Hopefully this helps others with this issue.

My A440F has a slight "slip" when shifting and I'm accelerating very gradually on a downward slope. I'm going to give this a try and see what happens!

Three days ago I started getting that flare right when it switched to third gear. I have a 92 lc80. It would go thru first and second then acceleration surge as it went into third. Everything else was fine. I've had this vehicle for six or so months and honestly just thought it was a super slow pig so I drove it that way. Slowly. Started reading and saw that changing tranny fluid and adjusting the kickdown/detent cable had helped others. Changed fluid last night, no change. Thought I would adjust cable after work today, I find that the end of the cable has broken off the ferrule that holds it and it's not working at all! Sh*t!!!

So I had a ferrule in my tool box... Crimped it on and adjusted the detent cable to shift right. No more flare. We will see tomorrow how it does on a longer trip than a mile down the road test.

To clarify, are you adding or removing slack in the cable?

I guess you would call it adding. You are reducing the distance between the metal clip that is clamped to the inner cable and the red/orange rubber cover.

Im having a similar issue with low speed stop and go traffic before it kicks into gear. Will try to adjust more.

Had recently replaced kickdown and throttle cable.

Am also getting a weird transition between shifts mostly at 100km/hr and 120km/hr:

Im not a mechanical genius and have been called mechanically retarded before. Wondering if these 2 items are linked? Is it a solenoid issue, mechanical tranny issue or just needs more adjustment?
