Hello all,

I'm have a bit of problem. My 64fj40 has been converted to SBC, and auto tranny(350), with the stock T-case. I need to figure out how to shift the T-case out of 4wheel, hi, Low, and all that. But here is the catch, I was wondering if there was a way to do this using the stock dash shifter. None of the linkage came with it, probably wouldn't help anyway.

I was thinking if it would be possible to shift it using some sort of cable. What worked for yall??

Thanks,
my64fj40

My 65 has a 350/th400/ to 3 speed case, and I retained all of the stock dash shifter stuff. The vacuum shift for front drive (FD), is as easy as extending the vacuum lines. The hi/low is a matter of re-inforcing the bellcrank on the frame so it does not flex around and then extenting the rod from it to the xfer case.
It was really pretty easy.

I just noticed you said you were missing all the linkage.
Is the stuff on the dash there?
What about the bellcrank on the firewall (I have one)
bellcrank on the frame. (I have one)
What about the vacuum dealio on the firewall
vacuum shifter on the xfer case? (I have one)
I also have a ton of miscelanious rods that you may be able to peice together.... PM me if you are interested.

Like pygpen said, the early set up IS pretty easy, and in some instances preferable to trying to do a floorshift on a SBC auto. That's because the t/c on most of those ends up under the factory gas tank, where running a straight floorshift would be ..............problematic!

The one thing I would do different to what he suggests is put a little more effort into building a pivot anchor off of the side of the engine, like stock, rather than off of the frame. Maybe it's just my imagination, but I see that being a little less likely to flex you into neutral at a bad time.
