So I finally broke into the spare R151 transmission and transfer case that I picked up from @joekatana to rebuild (w/Marlin Crawler upgrades) and swap into my cruiser. The transmission gears look excellent, but the transfer case hasn't faired as we'll. There was some water in the oil which was likely the cause of this rust spot, and some wear on the input gear.

I am trying to decide if I should worry about these items at all, or if I have just been too tempted by those Sumo gear sets from Cruiser Outfitters and am just trying to justify the purchase.

Any opinions?

I would not worry to much about the rust .. hard to tell by the pic to me about the wear on the gear ..

I would not worry about it and run it,I have noticed that when cleaning these transmissions and transfer cases with the hot pressure washer some water gets in and makes a few rust spots on the inside.I would clean the surface rust of it and the new 80W90 will provide a new shine surface after some miles. These Toyota T cases are very robust.

Man you guys are horrible at supporting my excuse to buy parts that I don't really need.

Well I guess on with the rest of the rebuild then.
