Would a FJ60 trans and xfer case be interchangable with a 77 FJ40? If so is there any year designation?

No, not directly interchangeable, but the combination could be made to work without too much work.

I guess I'm not quite sure what you are asking.

If you mean "can a FJ0 tranny & t-case bolt-up to a '77 2F in a FJ40" yes, it is possible, though it requires a a few changes.

Changes? Things like the e-brake, tranny top plate (aka shifter location), etc.
