The carnage... So I tore into the 3rd member last night. I have never seen anything like this. I found 10 bolts in the bottom of the differential pan. I was so confused when I saw this. I thought someone must have sabotaged my vehicle. This is just crazy, someone had taken bolts and pushed them through the fill hole of my front diff.
Well... As you are all thinking that is probably not the case. And it was not.

What is the case, is that all of the bolts that are holding the flange cap assembly and differential case of the ARB unit backed out of the ring gear. We are talking about 12 very large heavy duty bolts. There are only 10 showing in the photos. This is because upon reviewing these photos I noticed a couple of them hanging around in the axle shaft housing.

All I can guess is that whoever installed this ARB and 4:88 gear did not properly torque the bolts in place, and or use any Loctite on the bolts.

The interesting thing is none of the Ring gears teeth are chipped or broken. Not sure about the Pinion gear as I have not disassembled the 3rd member.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this before?

I am at a loss. How can I tell if the Ring and Pinion need to be replaced? There is no visible damage showing on them. Can the ARB locker be fixed? Can the damaged parts be replaced?

I am truly at a loss with this... :bang:

I myself would not rerun that gear set. If those bolts backed out and it could just spin it is not any good anymore in my book.

This being said. I would highly recommend going into the back end and pull those bolts one at a time and lock tight them and torque properly.

I want to give a shout out to Kurt over at Cruiser Outfitters. I think every vendor could learn a thing or 2 about how he does business. He was overly helpful and informative in this process.

Thanks again Kurt.
