Here is a flatbed we recently finished for a customer. We were quite pleased with how it turned out and would love to get your opinions on it.

We used all 2" .120 wall HREW tubing and 3/16 diamond plate for the floor. It ended up being right about the same weight as the stock bed.

He was planning on having us put removable side plating on it, but found an FJ40 he couldn't live without and sold the truck :crybaby:.

So now you might see this rig running around the Tahoe area.

We wanted to make something nice for the filler neck, but he was fine with the way it was. The blinkers, which I like, were from 06' KLR 650 that we had lying around. I want to find some more.

That's sweet

. . . looks almost like a giant roof top basket

What up Scott! You guys work on stuff other than Land Cruisers? :flipoff2:

It's sick, I know, I saw it when we were up there. Only thing, which I told the person driving it now is I would've done differently would be to have put the brake lights up in the corners of the bed itself, into an enclosure somehow, so it wouldn't affect space or have the lights get cracked, but then it brings up the whole idea of keeping them out of harms way on the corners, huh?

Give some better pics of how you guys joined the tubing and the latching on the tailgate, same if there's any of the underside of the bed, before the floor's in, it's sooooo clean! :D Show the 79-95 Truck and 4Runner guys some love man!

Hey NorCalborn,

So you have already seen the truck? Cool. I hope he takes care of it. We considered a few areas for the lights but figured the quarters were what get bashed the most and not as much in the middle of the rear. Plus that corner was going to be hell to fill in.

We do work on things other than Cruisers. Just trying to focus right now on one thing, but we will work on anything. Toyota's are obviously first in line though.

As for the other pics we were hoping to get more, but he sold it first.

The tubing is all notched welded and grinded smooth it looks completely seamless. Some people like the welded look, but we went a little haywire and wanted it to look perfect. The tailgate was hinged with just heavy door hinges. In the pictures the tube to the tailgate was open, but we filled that as well.

As far as the underside we just made mounts with 1" by 2" I believe. Nothing to fancy down there.

I wish I could find away to contact the guy to get more pics. Anybody know him?

Are you looking to get any work done? I will PM you this as well.

Thanks,
Scott

*Someone/You forgot to logout or that's your old screen name outside of the shop??

I'm done for now w/ my build, waiting to see what the new year brings, looking at 80 and 100 series, only thing about the 100's is the IFS..

The turn signals are actually made to take a hit. The body of them flex at all angles and are actually damn strong. They were off of my shop partners enduro and are made to take some hits on the trail.

Looks nice, except for mudflaps/fuel filler exposure. I like the bed though, would look good skinned.

Thanks.

The Mudflaps are actually just a quick disconnect flap. The cops can be sticklers around here for them.

We were oping to finish the filler neck, but he never got it back to us.
