^^ I just assumed it was indifference to their enthusiasts wants; easier to stick to their bread and butter than take a chance on seeking different market opportunity.
That nissan and maybe the tundra misses the mark imo. A shame the mahindra pickup was squeezed out from NA market, that had some potential...

Why Nissan and Toyota want to compete in the well established full sized diesel market is beyond me. Why not get into the reasonably priced mid sized market with the models they already have over seas? Look at how popular the Taco has been...

I was at a Chevrolet dealership the other day (just by chance) roaming around the trucks. Of course a sales dude came out, asked if he could help. I said I'd take any 5 or 6 speed new truck off the lot right now, sign me up. He gave me his card and was walking away and I asked, how about a custom order. No chance, you can't even order a pickup with a stick at Chevrolet, not sure about any other manufactures, really sucks. He says they demand wasn't there so they stopped making them. What is wrong with this country, do people dislike manual transmissions that much? I find them so much more fun to drive, feel like you are engaged in the driving process, not sitting in your living room playing a driving game. At least they had one work truck on the lot with rubber mats and cloth seats, not easy to find a utilitarian truck, something without heated this and that, DVD's, automatic this, tire pressure that, frickin' drives me crazy

We have to ask ourselves, as much as we'd love it if Toyota brought in a diesel truck, would any of us seriously consider buying one? It will be well north of $50k for sure, be IFS, have more electronics than your entire house and would be an auto.

Hardly worth it, IMHO.

In a heart beat Rob, I would have one of these:

1HZ and 2inch lift. I'd even consider buying a few and decking them up for work. We pay between $50G and $80G for one ton diesel Dodges, so bring on the work truck toyotas, there is a market anywhere north of the City, if you've been to Fort St. John or any other Alberta Oil town (not city) you would have seen the domonance of the full sized truck.

I wasn't referring to a 70 series, of course those are desirable because they are simple, even the newer ones. I was thinking of a diesel tacoma or tundra with more plastic per square-foot than a drawer full of tupperware.

But yeah, I'd be all over a new 70 series myself.

I guess they have closed the door on that 'old school' for you. But have you driven a tiptronic style auto - got one in my Outback - its great for downshifting into corners and forcing up shifts when you want- rather a hunk of silicon

Sure it's a minivan, and a Dodge one too, but our Caravan is actually kinda fun to "drag race" with. The tranny shifts pretty damn crisp when you have your foot into it, and if you choose you can slap the gears around on the dash mounted shifter, kinda 3 on the tree ish, 'cept its 6 and kind of off the tree......uh...where was I going with this and what were we talking about?
