Sigh........... I was hoping I could adjust by meter. But I have a CDrom shop manual and it mentioned the Toyota scan tool, nothing about a meter.

Mine in the same...

Just got done with the whole deal. the cruiser has been stumblin, hooked up the scantool, no codes... finally the thing really acted up- no electrononic throttle, p0120 & p0121 stored, TPS codes. got the part, how to install??? the Toyota manual is horrible, obviously a bad japanese to english trans.

any help??? left to right aint worth a sheit, how about clockwise and counter clockwise?? 15 degrees??

What kind of mileage were on the rigs when they developed the problem?

I'm getting paranoid and trying to decide if I should just go ahead and buy a aps and a tps and install them on my 98 as a preventative move. I'm pushing 150k on my rig with no apparent problems, but don't want the fun of getting stranded....

I'm also guessing that the replacement parts are not redesigned or upgraded from the original, so that's what makes me wonder how much mileage plays a role in the demise/malfunction of the parts?

Also agree with Slee, at least should be deserving of a tsb..... recall would be the right thing though!

The part is not too bad to install, just not real easy to get to. If you look at the amount of gap on either side of the mounting screw you can get a good indication on what side to rotate the sensor. I put the new one on exactly how the old one came off (Same amount of gap on one side of screw). I drove down to Toyota and had a guy put the scan tool on to read the sensor’s range for no charge.

I don’t think mileage has anything do with the faulty part. If it aint broke don’t fix it. WWIW, whenever it acted up, I was able to turn it off and re-start the engine and it corrected it’s self. The first time though, it didn’t correct until about the 3rd time of stating.

PO 120 - Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch "A" Circuit Malfunction

Trouble Area: Open or short in throttle position sensor circuit, Throttle Position Sensor, or ECM

PO 121 - Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch "A" Circuit Range/Performance Problem

Trouble Area: Throttle position sensor

Dean, I'll scan the FSM (6 pages) for you.
Send those to me too if you can

The other day I went to start the car and all seemed normal. I went to back up and when I pressed the throttle, nothing happened. To make this short, it only would run when the gas peddle was mashed to the floor. I went to Autozone to get the code pulled and it was the throttle position sensor.
After looking into this, it seems that there is another sensor that is most likely the culprit. I think it was called the throttle motor control. (part # 22060-500-11 C-Dan’s price $189+ tax)
Has anyone replaced this before and were your symptoms the same as mine?
I think this is going to be a plug-n-play part (no setup required).

I also would like to know what code readers you all like to use $45 and up for the dealer to pull the code is crazy. If you have a link, please post.
Thanks,
Dean

People that own 1998 through 2001 Toyota Land Cruisers Toyota did not do a recall but they did a service campaign the throttle position sensor the pedal sensor on the whole bottle body the ECM are all under warranty this could add up to almost $5,700 it's going to be under a 150000 miles or 10 years whichever occurs first check with your local dealers you have any questions email me I have all the information it expires August 7th of 2016

Motor Sales economic loss class action settlement customer support program 3 year no mileage restriction effective August 7th 2013 thru August 7th 2016 is applied to the original manufacturer warranty for each covered component up to 150,000 miles an additional 10 years whichever comes first components covered engine control module cruise control switch accelerator pedal assembly accelerator pedal position sensor stop lamp switch and throttle body assembly throttle position sensor throttle position motor these are all covered under the warranty it is transferable to the new owners

I'm sure no one in the Toyota dealerships are saying anything about this but they will not cover labor on most of it but they will cover parts so if we have a Toyota Landcruiser they're going to honor this until August 7th 2016 it doesn't make a difference if you the first owner of the 5th owner if you own the vehicle and it has not been serviced you're entitled to the repairs as most of you know it goes into limp mode when your going down the freeway and it just shuts down and you only get a quarter of the pedal response

I had this happen about 1 month ago, and not since. But the cruise control hasnt worked since then. Has anyone successfully talked a dealership into giving them the parts to repair? Under the above warranty?

Most dealerships won't say anything but its not a recall if a campaign customer campaign

Running into this issue right now. I have a 2000 Land Cruiser with 172,000 miles. If I'm reading this correctly you're saying there's no mileage restriction and they'll warranty each covered component for an ADDITIONAL 150,000 or 10 years is that correct?

If so - would it be smarter to contact corporate first or a local dealership first? When I lookup the service campaigns at this official toyota link with my VIN number it says no campaigns are currently running: Lookup Safety Recalls & Service Campaigns by VIN

I note that you said it's a service campaign not a recall but on that page they word it as "safety recalls and service campaigns".
