Bump for a nice truck!

Beautiful. Why can it not be imported into the US? Can someone enlighten the newbie?

Much easier when they are over 25 years old. ;)

It can be imported, just going to be a pita because of the lift and having it pass inspection with the rhd. Assuming going from can-usa is somewhat similar to going can-usa

There are a few States where you could probably get away with bringing it in ( mostly Southern States ) but even there it can be a nerve racking experience. .............................1978HJ45

ah people do it, someone should just wing it!

A local man brought in a RHD Delica from BC recently. Amazingly, he didn't know that it could be a problem. His ignorance was bliss, because both customs and the DMV basically said "screw it"-they didn't want to deal with a hassle-and let him have it.

Theres a way to do it. Some should get a bit of research done on how to do it exactly. If guys can bring in HJ61s, BJ74s, HZJ73s, HZJ77s, and HDJ81s I am sure someone could do this.
I hear of people selling their 80 in the states and it leaving to Canada. A year later it comes for sale modded right out with OME, ARB and a 1HD-T in it. A couple from seattle bought it and had NO problems bringing it across.
Now the HDJ81 is the exact same as an 80 except with a diesel and not the 4.5L gas.
The crash tests would be exactly the same and the only difference is RHD and the diesel. The 1HD-t runs like a champ and its tuned to perfection. She doesn't smoke so it would pass emissions no problem. RHD isn't an issue and people know it. Honestly I think someone should make a few phone calls and find out.

Vehicle Importation and Certification Requirements

someone could do it if they don't mind a little bit of paperwork.

I looked at the vehicles that are not allowed at and there is no where that a Landcruiser is not allowed.
This is the EXACT same body as any other landcruiser 80 series but with a Diesel.
The only thing I read is that your going to have to get Emission Tested. If your worried about particulate, The exhaust has 1 mufflers and 2 resonators.
If someone made a few phone calls, just think you would have access to 81s.

Good luck on your sale with this beautiful rig. Brings back some nice memories of mine. I get to look at mine every day . . . . . . . . . neighbor 2 door down bought it! Sadly I hear that gorgeous sounding 1HD-T start up every day!

I have sent out an email asking questions about importing.
Did you know that r32 and r33 skylines are legal for import now into the states. There a go!

I think with a bit of research 81s will be allowed with little trouble. Its just a matter of people poking and prodding around.

I'll still have an 81 to look at around town, I have a friend who has a BIG one. I still remember when I was hunting and you were sadly selling yours not by choice. Hopefully you can find a 1HD-T one of these days and make yourself an HDJ80 and have a truly cooler rig....

just came back from a weekend trek, I can get over 650kms uncorrected before the low fuel light comes on.
this truck rocks!
