I have just recently bought a 1990 Toyota Hilux Surf, I plan on collector plating my Hilux, only thing is i would like to add some after market 4x4 parts like winch bumper, roof safari rack, snorkel etc...

ICBC which is the Auto insurance corp in B.C. says i can put factory 4x4 parts on my Hilux as long as there area specific and where offered from the factory or subsidiary factory outlet...that being said my Toyota Hilux is JDM right hand drive, and from what Ive seen, it seems like no Hilux or land cruiser that came from Japan is stock... they have factory snorkels on 80 series apparently, and the wheels are different...i dont think i have seen one land cruiser bone stock from japan...or Aus.

Does anyone know of Companies that provided Toyota with aftermarket bull bars - roof racks, etc 4x4 accessories?

Or did toyota offer lifts or bigger tires on land cruisers and Hilux's for the military etc???

Any info on toyota 4x4 parts for landcruisers and Hilux would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Can you put on "other" Toyota parts? Not sure what your allowed to get away with but maybe a very mild lift using a 1" block, shackles and t bar crank to run 31s or so. I think your gonna be SOL on factory bumpers. I'm confused as to why you can only use factory stuff? Your insurance company will drop you?

Does this have something to do with the "collector" plates? Must be factory original?

Otherwise, ya I don't get how an insurance company can have that rule.

I have "Antique" plates, but all that requires is that the vehicle be 25 years old or more, and be in "parade condition", and pass annual safety inspection (no emission testing). Once they get to 40, inspection is every 2 years.

This is one of ICBC's conditions for Collector plates, which are much cheaper than regular insurance plates. One of the other stipulations is "no scratches", which would be nothing short of miraculous on a 1990 Toyota, driven in B.C., like mine. It has more scratches than scratch-free paint.

I just picked up an 81 Westfalia with Washington state collector plate on it. After doing some research with ICBC the stipulations for collector plate or modified collector plate (which is what you want) are all available on the website in very clear details. Accessories have to be era-correct including the radio, being a 1990 no hidden equipment like ipod player or any other modern crap. Body has to be in exceptional condition, interior has to be original or era-correct upholstry.

Those are just qualification requirement... that doesn't even touch the fact that you'd be very limited on when and how often you'd be allowed to drive the truck. I like the idea of very low insurance premiums, but too many restrictions for being able to legally use the vehicle.
