I just received two front tow hooks in the mail. My rig has no bolts in the underside of the bumper bracket to hold the hooks. Does anyone know the size of these bolts??? Thanks guys.

12mm x 1.25mm x 45 mm. Make sure they are grade 8 bolts. I think Home Depot and Lowe's carries these bolts on their bins.

since you sold them to me, I should have just PM'd you. Thanks for the quick response Noel.

You're welcome:flipoff2: Don't forget to get the lock and plain washers to go with the bolts. Have fun installing those hooks/loops:wrench:

Personally I would either loctite them, or use nylocks.

You do NOT want them coming off in a recovery situation.

Bringing up an old thread because I don't think the answer was clear and I also have an additional question. First, what is the correct bolt size / pitch? Also, I have one that is stripped out. How do people suggest I fix this? TIA.

Well the size and pitch is in the second post of this thread. A lot of the other information is rather useless, so I wouldn’t bother with any of that (loctite? why?)

Go and get a new bolt from a hardware store. Metric hardware doesn’t come in grade 8, you want 10.8 for comparable strength.

12MM O.D. by a 1.25 pitch, length is about 50MM, Grade is 10.9.

So I should remove the current one and weld in a new one? Or can this one be tapped to another size? And if so, what size?
The original bolt your replacing is a 12MM X 1.25 thread pitch.

So if you want to use that same size thread pitch, the next size larger bolt that has a 1.25 thread pitch is 14MM X 1.25.

The tap drill for that thread size would be 12.8 MM, or .503 inch, so you could use a standard 1/2 inch (.500) drill bit to drill out your hole with.

Of course after you tap your new threads, you'll need to enlarge the hole in your tow strap bracket to allow the larger bolt to fit.

So the top two bolts for the tow hook itself is 12 x 1.25 x 50 mm but what is the size for the single bottom bolt? Anybody know?
