Does anyone know where I can purchase a high performance/beefed up torque converter for a 1986 4Runner? Or what may be the best way to strengthen an automatic? I've tried the search, and Google search, but it seems like everyone builds for just the late model Toyotas.

I know it sounds like an oxymoron, but I need to get a good torque converter to put behind a new LC Engineering engine in a 4Runner. The Runner was originally a turbo with the automatic, and it is necessary to keep the auto. The truck is mainly used off road and for rock crawling, with just short drives on the highway.

Thanks,
Jerry D.

Ouch, the reason that theres so few automatic 86-95's is because Toyota built a s***ty auto at the time... good luck. See if advanced adapters makes a kit to put a 700r4 behind it...

The auto is necessary as the driver has only one arm, and that's the left one. May be good idea if he had a right side drive like overseas, but what he has is what we work with...
