Hey all,

I’m replacing my engine with a used engine from a buddy, block and heads separated. The heads are at a shop getting cleaned and inspected, but I’m not sure if I should disassemble the block to clean it? Or find a place to inspect and clean it? Or just leave it assembled and clean it as is to get ready for assembly? From what I’m told it ran really well, there’s no signed of issues and it looks good. Just a bit dirty. I’m pretty sure it has over 200k miles. Any advice? If I take it apart I’d like to re use the parts if they all look good but not sure I should. Ideally I want to clean out all the passages and such.

maybe flip it over and pull 1 or 2 bearing caps off and inspect the bearings. if the cylinder walls look good, and the bearings are still good, no need to tear down the longblock, right ?
That’s a good compromise. From the top the cylinders look great. No scoring, still have crosshatching.

If the cylinder walls still have crosshatching and you sourced it from a friend you trust, I would run it. Pretty standard for these engines to go 5-600k at least on factory bearings.
