Hi,

Can anybody give me a good recommendation regarding tires?

I've done the DIY roof rack, DIY drawer/bed, DIY foldable table in the rear.

Now I'm installing new brake calipers etc next weekend.

After that I want to acquire new tires. (will eventually do a lift and go from air to spring suspension)

I live in a northern climate; snow/ice in the winter, short summers. I do some mild off-road driving when camping and when I go exploring in the mountains. Other than that mostly highways. I do want some cool looking wheels on my ride; want to hear what you guys can recommend.

In advance, thanks!

Falken wildpeak fan here. Not as structurally bulletproof as M3GX's excellent recommendation, but lighter and noticably better mpg when not on the trail. I've never had a problem and I've done pretty aggressive rock work on them.

So I live up north as well and recommend running 2 sets, winter and "all" season tires. For the winters, I run Mastercraft Glacier MSR which work extremely well in bad conditions. at $100 a tire I can't recommend them highly enough.

Summers I use a highway tire the michelin primacy. They are EXCELLENT road tires but don't look aggressive at all. Incredible value @ $125 a tire.

I can do 1000km on a good weekend, on highway, so I might have to consider going for a less rugged option. I don\t know.

But when I'm at my cabin I drive tractor roads and when conditions get bad they get really bad - even on the road. Snow and ice.

I'm new to all of this - 4wd, off-roading, wheels etc so I appreciate the concrete recommendations.

However, the Falken Wildpeak and KO2/3 sound interesting but might they be too rugged for me...

I'll throw an option in the ring for ya.

Firestone Destination X/T. There isn't much on the the internet for these tires on these rigs (i.e.-none) but a review of these tires from someone here on mud with a 100 series is what sold me. I've been running them for the last year (about 15k miles) mostly daily driving with some off road jaunts smattered in. This past weekend was a real good test of them aired down in some very tight trails and frozen over mud holes. To say I'm happy with them is an understatement.

Falkens Wildpeaks are good in the snow, but not great. They are however good on the highway and great off-road. I would say they are not overly aggressive, I use mine all the time on the highway, including towing, and they do very well. They are just a bit nosier than a purely road-focused tire.

As far north as you live I'd suggest two sets of tires. A summer set of AT tires and a winter set of snow tires.

Thanks,

I currently have a set of summer tires and a set studded winter tires.

Replace the summer ones with AT tires; a set of one of the recommendations you guys gave.

Thanks for the input, I'll research the options given!

I'm currently rolling on Falken WildPeak AT4W and quite happy with them. They're the first set of AT tires on my GX and quieter and smoother than I was expecting. Probably just as noisy as the half-worn Kumho Crugens I was previously on. Mostly highway with some light offroading.

For my GX, I'm currently on Geolander AT GT15 passenger rated tires. Super compliant and quiet on the road. Also 3peak snow/mud rated. But not aggressive at all. For me the GX is my daily/camping rig. And the jeep is the stupid $h*t rig
