Big tires are great! and...I saw this truck in person, it was amazing!

All that being said, I have to agree with the sentiment about 33" vs. 35". There is not only suspension work involved, but you do have the re-gearing, gas mileage, wear and tear, etc., etc. At the end of the day does one really need all of that?

...but really, I probably know less than you.

Regearing a 200 is the last thing I'd worry about. I've lived with my 100 and 35's for years. There's enough power left for the job. God...the 200 has gobs and gobs......no worries.

That is what I was hoping....:)

I'm confused on something.

According to BFG, a 285/70R17 (33") tire will work on a 17x8" rim, which the TRD's are (TRD 17" Forged Off-Road Wheel at Sparks Toyota-Scion, Myrtle Beach, SC).

The 315/70R17 (35") will only work on a rim 8.5-10". However, I see a lot of people online squeezing these onto 8" rims. Is this a good idea at all? It seems quite common actually.

In fact, Toyota's own SEMA TRD Tundra [FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"uses TRD 17x8-inch forged off-road wheels with 37x12.50-inch R17/D BFG tires"

How is this possible?

Thanks!

It can be done, the only issue I see is blowing a bead on extreme cornering or something, but don't know of any instances.

I have a set of 34" x 12.5" x 16" on 8" wide rims. It doesn't ballon out, instead it ballons up. This may make the tire taller than manufacturers suggested size. Might even promote more wear in the middle of the tread, instead of evenly accross the whole tread. Like you said above, it is totally squeezed on their.

Hmm...I don't get then why Toyota made the TRD rim an 8" not an 8.5" since even at 8.5" it will accommodate everything from 31-37".

Pretty sure it is to keep the edge of the tire within the body of the car. This vehicle is HUGE in Australia, and I know they get serious fines if the tire is outside the vehicle width. A lot of people down there like the offset, but they need to get some sort of fender flares or they get a ticket.

Same thing here in Canada if the coppers choose to fine ya.
