I checked my tire pressure after having the LX serviced at the dealership and noticed that all four tires were at roughly 32 psi (ice cold tires, LX sat idle for two days after picking it up at the dealership). The sticker in the door jam states that cold tire pressure should be 29 psi front and 32 psi rear, so I let out 3 psi from the front tires.

My ride quality is now worse. It's almost boomy. I'm not sure how to describe it other than it almost feels the way the LX feels when you lower one window at highway speed and get that boomy feel from the good seals on the windows.

My tire pressure gauge is supposedly very good (high end unit bought recently from Griots garage) and it's been very accurate compared to my older tire guage used on my other two cars so I don't think that's it.

I would have expected the ride quality to deteriorate if there was too much air in the tires but not the other way.

Any thoughts/ideas?

I ride on the first sport setting just right of center and it is a nice firm ride. I have 29 Front and 32 rear cold with Michelin Pilot LTX M&S's 275/60/18's. What is your suspension setting???

I've played with the different settings to see if it helps/hurts and the boominess is still there.

I normally ride on the second to the left setting while on the streets and then the firm setting while I'm on the freeways (highway speeds here in S. CA are typically 70-75 mph).

What kind of gauge are you using? How old is it? Do you know if it is calibrated? I ask because many people gauges are innacurate to the tune of 5-20%, which would translate into anywhere from a 1.5 to 6 psi error in your inflation.

When I han Michelins I ran them at 32F/34R because I thought the ride was to soft. The Michelins have a soft side wall which I hate. Swithched to Revo's.

Still have almost new Michelin's for sale if interested. 275/60/18

This may have just answered the question. Are your Revos a P-metric or LT tire?

did the switch to the revos tighten up the ride?

the sag on those LTX's when properly inflated just looks so wrong. ride is super soft. just doesn't feel right on anything other than sport. with the AVS dial i can soften the ride if i need to, don't need the tires to do it for me..... it's a truck, not a sedan deville or a lincoln mark V.

Wish I lived close to you. Plan on replacing my LTX's with another set next winter. They are great tires made for this vehicle. Now if you want to go gully jumping you might want another tire but I doubt you will with a new LX.

i know i should just be OK with the whole thing. i realize the guys at lex selected this tire, but i'm still just hung up on the low tire pressure and the sag. as i posted before, i'm used to my other big vehicle (the e250 work van) that i run around 65PSI and rides hard as a rock. the lex feels so soft and comfy that some extra hardness wouldn't bother me a bit.

there's gonna be a lot of restraint used on my part when it comes to how this truck is used, that's for sure. the wife doesn't seem to understand my viewpoint that if we're into this thing for a little over 60K it better damn well act like a truck when i want it to. we have inlaws in town to see the new son for the next three weekends, so that weekend of the 27th i hope to get that thing a little filthy. the rear cargo mat will be here for camping gear, the all weather OEM floor mats will be installed, but i don't quite think the seat covers will be decided upon and installed..... not sure how i'm gonna work riding in the new rig in dirty and wet waders.

back on topic... i'm gonna see if i can get the dealer to work with me on replacing these LTX's with some revos since the only miles they currently have on them are the ones from the dealership to here when they delivered it. they screwed something up so the tire pressure light keeps flashing, requiring a trip back to see them.. my logic says that since i have to go there for their mistake, they should work with me on some tires. we shall see.

i don't really care either way. i'm sure the LTX's will be fine if i can't get a new set super cheap. as the LTX's are more expensive than the revos, i may have a chance....

Your problem is that you can't get the REVO's in the stock 275/60/18 size, I think you can only get the REVO's in 275/65/18 or 285/65/18. Either way I would confirm with the dealer before you change size that if you go up in size they won't dump your warranty. That would not be good. Unless your going rock crawling the LTX's should be fine. Just air them up when you go off road.

good point.

how high do you think i could air them up without it being a risk? when i got them from the dealer they were at 40psi.

i'm sure they'll be fine.

The P-rated OEM tires should be sufficient for the occasional offroad excursion provided it's not too rocky. When driving offroad in CO, I never bothered to air down, as the P tires are already kind of "flabby" (I was running 32 psi front & rear, Bridgestone HT 275/60R18). Besides, the more rocky, technical trails are often too narrow for the 100. Some time early this year, Yokohama is supposed to offer the Geolander AT/S all terrain tire in both 275/60R18 and LT 275/65R18 according to their website.

Hate to say this but mine says max. pressure 35 psi. I wouldn't go over what the side wall says is the Max. Might still bulge at the Max cold pressure of 35 psi :)

Yes max is 35 and do not go over it. If you ever had the Michelins off the wheel and grab the side wall you know what I am talking about. Soft and flex and designed for a soft feel no bump ride. If you like it great but if you don't try increasing pressure but not over recomended max. If that does not make you happy then your should look at different tires or suspension.

I went from Michelins to Bridgestones (yes I grabed the side wall and it made me happy:) ) then finally added Bilsteins. Now I am a happy camper:cheers:

To go back to the original question, it appears the Revo A/T's you put on are a P metric. It could just be an artifact of the different tire size. Adjusting the pressure up 3 psi will not hurt anything, I would be concerned if you were to drop the pressure to under the manufacture recommendation.

 I think the orginal question was with the Michelins not the Revo's. My Revo's max at 44lbs, I run them at 38 unloaded and higher with load.

Actually, the original question isn't about hte Michelins or the Revo's.

I checked this AM on the way to work and our LX is equipped with the OEM Dunlop tires.

Sorry, I thought you had replaced the tire's with Revo's. What you may be experiencing is that Toyota tested the truck with a different tire than the Dunlops and the Dunlops have a harmonic at that inflation pressure the other tires didn't. Given the weight distribution of the landcruiser, I am suprised by the recommendation of a lower psi in the front tires. I would go back to 32 psi as it is a small enough change that it shouldn't significantly (if at all) affect tire wear and is not a safety issue (unlike running the tires under the recommended inflation pressure).

The way I always checked for the right inflation on my Dodge 1 ton Dually CTD 4x4 was the test where you drive through some dust and then onto clean surface and you can see if all of the thread is making contact with the road. If over inflated all the thread does not lay down and if not enough it rides over the side of the thread. I notice on the LX470 with Michelins that 29 psi in the front is perfect, the recommended 32 psi in the rear is too high with no third row sets in the rear and no load in the rear.
