AAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!

I decided to try it out on some 15" steel wheels I have before I tackled the little trailer wheels since I was concerned that the latter would be much more fragile and easier to bend. Figured I could practice first on the big stuff since I never used one of these gizmos.

Well, I removed and mounted 2 tires. These were 15" tires, and it was much harder than I anticipated. Easier than with spoons, but dang hard. I used detergent and water as lube. Maybe it wasn't slippery enough. But man, I had to pull hard. Result: the handle / lever of the gizmo is now bent in a couple of places and I think I even bent the main post.

Well, it lasted 2 changes... still usable but doesn't inspire much confidence....

oh, and given how brutal the exercise was, no way I would use this on an alloy wheel...

added: well, I tried to use the gizmo on a 12" trailer wheel, and it worked beautifully. Very easy to do. I guess 15" tires is just too much for this one. Better stick with the smaller wheels only, and it should last a while.

I guess like many things in life, you get what you pay for. Have you looked into that off road kit where you carry the bead breaker and tire irons with you? I used Tom Boyd's at Rubithon 2 years ago and it worked suprisingly well.
