So heres the deal, I have a 1985 4Runner with a 22RE. I cannot get it to time for the life of me. I have it all the way bottomed out on the adjustment and it still isn't even close. If I turn it the other way the motor starts to cut out. I tried jumping the yellow connector on the drivers fender well and no change. The truck runs and drives fine until I get on the throttle then it starts to miss. I just put a header on it and took out the cat. The timing issue was there b4 the header FYI.

If your knock sensor or O2 sensor is not hooked up it can cause these problems, or if your TPS is out of adjustment, as well as a bad igniter. Definitely get that problem solved because chances are your timing is not advancing with RPM.

Something like this just happened to me, turned out to be a bad igniter.
