Timing belt and water pump kit legitimate?

The Aisin kit comes with (per the photograph) the belt, water pump, tensioner, tensioner pulley, and idler. For other parts you want to get I'd suggest getting them from Toyota (either a local dealer or one that sells online), including the coolant.

I wouldn't mess with the crank seal or any other seals (including the cam seals) unless they are leaking. They can be hard to remove and reinstall correctly. OEM Toyota seals are excellent quality and should last hundreds of thousands of miles.

I was looking at the AMZ kit and the bolded were not listed but the thermostat was on the frequently bought with list. I think the previous owner also mentioned i get the fan bracket as well
I'd get the fan bracket if it wasn't changed last time with an Aisin part. I also do the thermostat. Make sure you get FIPG for the thermostat housing, as well. You can get Toyota, but Aisin also makes it, and you can get it in smaller quantities at a more attractive price.
 
why on earth would you even take the chance of buying such critical components off Amazon :moon:
Aisin sells direct through Amazon. I’ve bought three kits from them without issue. I tried through Rockauto once, and it took a week and the water pump was damaged from poor packing.

Yes, you can spend 3x more to get it with the Toyota box if it helps you sleep at night. 😉
 
Same here, looks exactly like the one I used as well.

There's a few vendors selling the TKT-021 on Amazon, make sure you buy from The AISIN store vendor, and when you get it inspect all components. Bad parts can come from anywhere, and manufacture & distribution is done mostly by humans, so mistakes can happen, just check everything before your return window closes.

When I did mine a couple years ago I also got the fan bracket FBT-002 from same amazon vendor, touching wood while I say that all good for now..

As a sealer I got the Aisin alternative to the Toyota super expensive one, Also replaced the serpentine belt with a Continental instead of the ridiculously expensive OEM, Toyota provided the new style serpentine belt tensioner and pulley. All quiet in that front as well.

If you replace crank or cam seals, go OEM from a T dealer.

But most important is to follow All available instructions, either here in Mud, FSM, YT videos, gather all and go through the process mentally before you remove the first nut. Be clean and organized and don't rush it, properly remove old sealant from mating surfaces, follow the little Gotcha things like sealer on the tensioner bolt or placement of the wires behind the bracket.

Remember that most of the bolts go into AL and not steel, so use a torque wrench.
 
I'm glad Amazon has worked for you guys - but there ARE fake timing belts out there. Per my post on the previous page, I had one fail on a Subaru, leaving me stranded in the middle of nowhere with 16 bent valves. If some folks want to risk getting critical engine parts on Amazon, each to their own, but it's not a place I personally source anything more critical than a cabin air filter from.

The TKT021 kit is $11 more from Summit Racing (with free shipping) than from Amazon. Well worth the piece of mind to get it from a real retailer with a near-zero chance of getting a returned kit or a fake.

I buy the parts in the Toyota boxes… when they are on sale.

This is one of those jobs that doesn’t need to be done all that often in the life I will own the vehicle. Since the labor cost is me and I have a VVTi engine, the cost is worth the peace of mind.

But, these Aisin kits do look great!
 
Stick to Amazon's own supply chain. When you buy from a 3rd party fulfilled by Amazon, you're spinning the roulette wheel. Auto parts sold directly by Amazon are no more or less likely fakes than Rockauto, Summit, NAPA, or your local parts chain store.
 
OEM belt lasts easy 15 years+ or 150 K miles (I recommend to replace oem belt at 110K most). Get NSK bearings, OEM hydraulic tensioner (the one the AISIN kit seems to leak with time 6 years).

I pulled the OEM belt off a 1st gen Tundra at about 130K. It was definitely cracking and some of the cords were fraying. I'm sure it would have went a few more years, however, but I'd never go as far as 15 years or 150K. I'm going to continue to do mine at 100K as it's an easy job and it aligns with every other 50K coolant change interval.
 
My 3rd gen 4runner got the t-belt done about a month ago and it was like new with 50K miles and 15.5 years, yes it was a Toyota belt made in Japan. Country of origin probably matters.
