1984 Toyota Pickup 4x4

I looked at it the other day without the owner present. The body is in amazingly good condition. Some surface rust is all I could find. Frame is rust free. Knuckles weeping and a shackle lift in the front, on the inboard end of the springs, also stood out. Interior looks pretty good.

Weird. He reposted it, so this should work: 1984 Toyota pickup 4x4
Turns out he "lost" the paperwork for the rebuild, purportedly done in Portland. He just recently had the time chain replaced, which one would think would have been done during a "rebuild". Tie rod is bent, so PO in Oregon must have wheeled it some. Still, may not be a bad deal for around 2K.

I would say its worth $2500-2800. His $3000 asking price is a fair starting price, looks clean.

Relace the front inner axles seals with some seals from Marlin crawler to fix the leaking knuckles, and either get the marlink tie rod or upgrade to crossover steering.

Would crossover steering be a worthwhile upgrade for a truck with a mild 2" lift?

I would say yes, the difference between my old pushpull and the highsteer (similar) is like night and day.

That seems to be a fair deal, i payed 3200 for my 84 but it had 120,000 miles less on it.

Thanks for the info on this steering upgrade. BTW, I saw the truck today outside an auto parts store with the hood up so I stopped in. The new owner had it less than a week before the engine pooped out on him. He was pouring something in the crankcase as he explained that it had a sudden loss of power on the highway caused by a couple of bad cylinders. Or so he says. So much for the "rebuild". He plans to take it back to California, where he usually lives, and put a new engine in.
