I wrecked and very likely totaled my '02 Tundra on Friday. SR5 Access cab TRD 4x4 V8. I've owned it for nearly 11 years. Purchased it with 55,000 miles and now has about 160,000 and no rust because it has spent it's whole life in the eastern oregon desert where we don't salt the roads in winter. It has been a great truck for me. Love the size, reliability, style and capability. Really sad to see it go. Now I need help deciding whether to replace it with another first gen Tundra or a 2014+ Tundra. I do tow often but usually not more then 3000 to 4000 lbs. The 4.7 usually did fine but the 5.7 sure would be nice. I like the looks of the 1st gen quite a bit better as well as the size. But it's going to be tough to find one that I will feel as certain as I did with mine in the history and reliability. Kinda wondering if it's just time to upgrade. Would really be nice to get some feedback, especially from those of you that have had both.

Yep. Everyone walked away fine. Paramedics weren't even called.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that. I've had two 1st gen and now a 2nd gen. Not surprisingly, the 2nd gen seems better in every way. I'm sure the 3rd gen is even better.

I own both a 2004 access cab and a 2019 double cab SR5 Tundra. Both bought new. The older truck is now for the cabin only, The size/scale is the biggest difference between the two of them, most notably in the rear seat and bed height. I’m 6’1” and fit comfortably in the back seat of the 2019-no way in the 2004. The 4.7 is a work of art, but the 5.7 makes everything effortless. I towed 5000 lbs from Portland, OR to northern Minnesota in two days and didn’t break a sweat in the new truck. I am with the you, the early trucks are phenomenal, but I love the new one.

i have a second gen and love it! bought it with 20k miles, it's now at 85k and a lot of those miles were towing/hauling, sometimes more than it was rated for. wouldn't give it up for the world. love the 5.7 for all that work.

I have a 2017 Limited 4x4 with the 5.7, and I love it. I frequently tow my 6k pound boat and I don't even know it's back there. Also, the 38 gallon gas tank is nice!!!!

Well. I chased after a few low milage nice condition 1st gens but came up empty. Then test drove a couple third gens. Decided that's the way to go. Ended up finding this. Color I wanted and all the options I wanted. None I didn't. Flawless condition. And only a short 6 hr drive away.

2016 SR5 TRD 4X4 with captains chairs, center shift and a 38 gallon tank. Only 37k on the clock. Couldn't be happier with my purchase.

Nice. My daughter bought a 17, same truck. Mine is the LTD and I am constantly sliding around on the seat. I feel like I am sliding towards the console. Her (and your) seats are grippier and I stay in one spot.

I have a ‘14 Tundra Crewmax. Very few complaints. These trucks are crazy reliable.
