As some of you know I've been VERY uphappy with my work environment for some time now. Debi & I decided today that I can give my notice so I can devote my time to finding a job with less stress. I've been a cop for 18 years now and it seems to be all I know. I'll be 40 next month and this will be the first time since I was 14 (or younger) I've not had a job. It's a little scarry.....

A lot of things are still undecided and I don't have anything lined up just yet but I am looking at a few different options. We are not planning on moving to Texas just yet, but it'll all depend on what work I find and where.

I may be selling some projects too 'til I know for sure I have a job but I'll hold out as long as I can before doing that.

If any of y'all are so inclined I'd like to ask ya to pray for the Lord's guidence as we take this huge leap of faith.

good luck my friend...find something you truely have a passion for....not just a pay check!...sometimes you must take that leap of faith to better your life and life relationships...please do not hesitate to call if i can help in any way!....if you get bored come on up i got lots of stuff to keep a fella busy....fj40...fj55...fj45...just to name a few!

Well as a former Texas LEO, I'd like to say GOOD FOR YOU! Our prayers and thoughts are with you, especially regarding the idea of moving to Texas ;p

Let me know if you need anything, help with stuff, etc. Here's to the future

As one who has experienced two such episodes of unemployment over a 27 year career, I can understand your moving out "in faith" to new possibilities. De-stressing - walking exercising, walking, wrenching will be as important as the job search itself. After a while the rejection letters don't bother. Even made a game of how many such letters I would get before getting an interview. Life is short, so I salute you for reaching out for change. Best of luck to you Mike.

I can certainly understand what you're feeling as well, Mike. I worked with no more than a 1-2 week break from the time I was 13 until I was 38. Struggled with various part-time jobs in cable tv construction, security, even delivering phone books :o before landing another permanent job.

Best of luck to ya and if there's anything I can do to help, don't hesitate to holler!

That's great that you guys are moving forward and leaving the PD behind. I can attest to the varied feelings of leaving a steady job and also the unemployed feeling (twice in 18months, thank you aviation). It's not fun but so long as you keep an open mind and have the support from family and friends it helps A LOT.

If there is anything we can do let us know and of course you guys are in our thoughts.

Keep The Faith Mike

Mike, I only met you one time, but you struck me as a VERY down to earth Guy. I hope the best for you, and your family whatever you decide. " To Me ", law enforcement has to be one of the most thankless jobs out there, when you consider what you have to deal with on a daily basis. I know I've seen a difference in my BIL. Good luck to you, and yours, Al

Best of luck - scariest thing I ever did was give notice to my previous employer as I had never been without a job since I was 12. Can only imagine the feelings you are experiencing, but we've had enough conversations about it that I know you are doing the right thing.

Uh, now that you'll have all of this "free" time, could ya finish my sliders for me? :flipoff2:

What are you looking to move into? (job wise) I'll keep an eye out. Justin

Dunno.... Looking at driving a truck, doing lawn care, painting houses. It's not that I wanna get out of police work, I just wanna get away from a couple walking "Charley Foxtrots" where I am.

Mike,
Being in construction in K.C. being laid off is a usuall thing for me. Until you land a new job your interim job will be looking for work(8 hrs a day works best). It's out there, you just have to go find it. Good Luck
CC

Very cool.

I wish I could afford to do the same thing Mike. I hate where I am at and dont want to really get back into law enforcement either.

I thought about opening a lawn care biz. but I dont have the money to buy the start up equipment. I thought about truck driving as well but didnt want the time away from my 3 kids at such a young age.

I would do anything to get on somewhere as a Wildlife and Parks ranger/enforcement agent/etc. but dont have time to go back to school.

You will be in thoughts and prayers and I know things will end up going well for you guys.

Mike,

Hey I know I'm new to here, but it just so happens I know quite a few people here in Wichita. I have some part time work for you if you would like, doing LEGAL stuff...lol... Let me know if you would be interested. From being an electricians helper, to part time weekend Thurs. thru Sat. being a door guy at a small clean bar 4-5 hours a night. I have some other part time and full time deals, but without knowing your interests it's hard to list them all. Just figured if you may need some extra cash, get cabin fever, or just want to burn some free time you can PM me and we can get in touch. I am asumming you are living in Goddard still? Anyways if not, take care and best of luck on all your endeavors.

Jeremy
