First time cruiser owner here. Recently picked up an 83 FJ 60 and really enjoying it. Has OME lift 33”BFG MT’s newish Weber carb, distributor and wires and some other small things.

I have one small thing that is really affecting the drivability of the rig. The throttle goes from zero to call it 30% with no forgiveness in-between. This only seems to happen while the truck is running which leads me to believe that the linkage is fine but there is something in the carb. Has anyone else has an issue like this? Any ideas on how to fix?

Greatly appreciate any feedback and looking forward to getting this thing built up.

Do you have the factory linkage hooked up to the weber?

I just took a weber off of a truck and installed the an Aisan.

I didn’t like the angles and geometry of the weber adapted to the factory linkage.

I would try and install a throttle cable or put a factory style carb back on.

Yes the factory linkage is hooked up to it. I was looking at the redline throttle valve replacement for it. Sounds like that will be a good place to start.

My suspicion is the linkage is fine too if you can smoothly rev it up when at idle.
My guess: Weber carburetor is malfunctioning and needs some love (or replacement). I’m not personally familiar with them. I never had one.

I don’t think they work very well on the 2F. It’s too many compromises.

He made it sound the carburetor doesn’t have many mile on them and had a fresh tune up within the last month.

Do we thing the cable makes a big difference over the OEM linkage?

Any 2F guru’s in the Chattanooga Tn area?

So I tuned the carburetor and it seemed to get better. Thought some jets might be gummed up so took them out and ended up replacing them. Took the main jets to 155 and the air correction jets to 200 (from 145 and 170). Drove it again and seemed better yet again but still no cake. I still get the hard break and rev like crazy. It’s like breaking a carrot. Give give give give snap. I can get it to about 1200ish rpm before it gives.

I also bumped up the idle jets and tuned the idle and idle mixture screws as well.

My next thought is to take the air correction jets back to stock and see what that does.

Anyone else have any thoughts?
