I know this is "chat", but damn it really tears at my heart.....

I've recently been spending Sunday afternoons in downtown Wichita with a couple groups of people that do a church service and lunch for area homeless and near homeless people. What a great blessing this has been to me the past couple of months!!!

Without turning this into a "religion" thread, I would like to everyone in the TAC to take a moment and ponder all the "things" we have. I know for Debi & I we hae WAY more then we need and in some cases want. Somewhere in your town or near where you live is a similar group providing food, clothing and shelter for the homeless and near homeless in your area. Little things like clean used socks, underwear & clothing that you've either outgrown (at least in my case) and shoes/boots can be such a blessing to others who have literally nothing.

The government provides some of these people with money in one form or another. Many more of these people have no address to mail an assistance check to as they are living on the street or in shelters and their only support comes from local churches who reach out to try and help make a difference in the lives of others.

I know some of you don't attend church and others don't believe in God at all..... That is not the point of this thread. It's doing what you can to help others who really need it.

I ask you all to please take a moment and clean out your over-full sock drawer, drag those clothes out of the closet that you haven't worn in a couple years, jeans that you would like to someday get back in to etc, ad find a church that can get these items, or take them yourself to a shelter etc. that can distribute them to those that can use them to stay warm this winter.

Thanks for your time,
Mike

Most excellent sir!!!!!

Most shelters will take good used socks and any other items of clothing. What we asked people to do was buy new socks for themselves and donate their old ones. Since most of these folks don't have means to do laundry they'll wear socks 'til they literally can't wear them anymore and throw them away. What we've found here is that mens sizes 2X and larger and boots 10 thru 13 are harder to come by but very much in need by the shelters.

I've been meaning to do this....

I'm moving to NYC from Kansas in a few days....into an apartment that will only hold about the quantity of stuff that will fit in and on my FJ60. So needless to say, I've given boxes (and boxes) of clothing to goodwill in Lawrence. I suspect with this 5 degree stuff we're having, it'll be put to real good use. A win/win!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Hopefully, the truck makes it to New York too, or I could be out there wishing I had more clothes!

I do have some clothes all ready to take. Mom, Sis and I have all ready donated toys to the battered women’s shelter for the kids. Also every year we give slippers and blankets to the nursing home that took care on grandma in her final years.
