The truck came with a Pacesetter header, just not installed. All the hardware and gaskets are there, but I heard other companies make a better one. Downey in particular, I hear are good. Should I just put in the pacesetter cuz I have it, or sell it to fund a better one?

already in hand, and you'd only be out the instal time........hhmmm

let me think about that....:hhmm:

You could, wait for it to sell, at a fraction of the Downeys, and wait a couple weeks to get it, then instal it?

Go for it!...:flipoff2:

(its times like this that I love my avitar, .....................:D

pacesetter it is

Thanks for the tips. I had heard the pacesetter had problems with fitment, and the length of the down tubes being the same, and thought I'd rather do it once right...but we shall see how it works out.

Hopefully I'll be able to get to the header and the e-brake by next week. I'll let you know how it goes.

Now..... get the top off! :D

It just keeps getting better! :D

FSM's

The top won't come off til it warms up a bit around here. 17 was the low last night.

But I did get something in the mail today that'll help me get started working out the kinks of this thing.

The clutch went over the weekend...The PO replaced the slave just before I picked it up. I'm hoping he just didn't bleed it right.

The brakes need attention, too. Toyota publications 1800 622 2033

yessir

Yeah, I ordered them last week. I am new to wrenching so I figure the manuals are worth the expense. It hurt a little, but I did it like a band aid. They were around $115, shipped for both.

I figure it won't take long to save 2 charged hours of labor; by doing the things I can teach myself to do with the book(and mud) In fact I already have, so the manuals already paid for themselves, just doing routine checks and maintenance.

Wow! 115 for brand new ones? Can we ask where you ordered them from? (and who you talked to....) :D That's a great price. I paid 80 for my 86 manual and that one turned out to be some reprint that didn't have the electric schematics...

Nice ride!

I was looking at a late 80's 4R, but I need three point belts in the back for the kids. I am now looking for a '98 to '00 4R...anything you guys think I should look at to keep me outa trouble? Just looking for a daily while restoring the '64.

Thanks,
Dean

:steer:DI put the Toyota publications phone number and manual numbers in the post above. The FSM for chasis, engine, and body has every electrical schematic in the back. The electrical book was only $12. The other book is like 1500 pages thick. Has every brakedown of every part in an exploded easy to view drawings and was year specific for 1987.

The FJ60 books encompassed multiple years and were three fold, due to the emissions having its own manual, and were $150 for both.

Books 4 cars, doesn't currently show these books in their inventory, but thanks for the advice. I haven't seen them on e-bay recently (since December when I started looking)

Apparently, for all of you with ESP, you can randomly PM a stranger; and find these for $20. It's hard for those of us without ESP, cuz we don't know they're for sale.:D:hillbilly::flipoff2:

Actually, I did find the big book @ books4cars.com and it was 139.95:steer:

Oh, and I don't know much about later model Toys, but look out for any signs of fluid leaks. Look to see if there are any signs of the valve cover being off, or any major motor work. Look for signs that the PO has done proper general maintenance. Take a plug wrench with you and try to get a look at the plugs. See what kinds parts he/she were using when doing maintenance; better plug wires, and filters...

Toys run forever but saving $500 bucks at purchase and getting a poorly maintained truck; might cost you alot more getting it back to it's potential.

Ask me how I know.
