Just purchased a new to me '88 pickup. The PO's (2 before me) took pretty good care of it. I have been lurking for quite some time on MUD I've previously owned an '01 tacoma that went back to Toyota due to frame rust after owning it for a year, currently have an '03 4runner that is the family rig and now my new DD/toy the '88 pickup. Anyway, I found this one after about a 3-4 month search for a clean truck. Looking forward to the knowledge and information you guys have here! Here are some pics!

Truck has 115,00 miles and a pretty sweet camper shell that looks to be about the same age as the truck based on styling.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm not too fond of the current wheel/tire setup. The current shoes will definitely have to go before next winter. I like the idea of going "skinny".

skinnies

if your gonna go skinny you should get some steelies and slap yokohama 7.00 r 15's, nice and skinny, aliitle loud though. good on the gravel and snow/ice.

Nice find.:) The shell makes it look like a 4Runner.:D

We thought the same thing! The shell is from Inovation Industries in California. No idea if they are still around.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks for all comments. Here are some more pics of her. The frame doesn't even show surface rust.

That camper shell has probably been on there since new because it saved the bed from rusting away like all the others. You can also tell its never been wheeled because the front valance is perfect.
With that tow bar mount it looks like it got towed behind a motorhome or something.

I wish the bed was the original, but the previous owner told me he replaced the bed about 4 years ago, had it "rust proofed" and re-painted the entire rig at the same time. The bed was ordered directly from Toyota though which is pretty cool.

Yeah, it was pulled behind a motor home each year from Indiana to Texas for the winter.

Nice Find! Factory 4 spoked Alloys and 31x10.5's!!
If you can't find any out there, Toy Connection 4x4 has a pile: (408)988-4040.

Is that just a pic error or is there a little damage along the beltline in front of the gas tank on the new bed? Check your evap/vent hose, the one that's just above the fill hose for any plugging, it'll let the gas vent and leak down stripping the paint and letting it rust. Somewhere around here's a list I put together about all the points to clean and double check, let me know if you can't find it.

In other words, Baseline the crap out of it while you can and keep it in nice shape.

Check the corners where the fenders meet the cowl and consider pulling the cowl itself to clean out any trapped leaves, etc. It'll give you the opportunity to prevent anything that may be small or hidden from growing.

FWIW Innovation Shells are still around, but the last time I checked a couple of years ago they no longer make that style of shell, same for the Pathfinder styled one. There isn't anything current since '06, but the site is still active, weird.

Should you ever decide to part with the shell, sell it for replacement value, minus what your market will bear, they're highly sought after by a lot of the restorer/truck collector crowds, in other words, if in great shape, they are collectible. Heck, for that matter, I haven't seen one go up for sale on T.O.R.C. in a while.

Thanks for the info. It's funny you mention the evap/vent hose because I have the gas tank removed currently to replace the brake lines that go along the frame rail. I will definitely check that out.

I will have to find that check list though!

Thanks for the info on the shell and the stock wheels. That is what I hope to do eventually.

Immaculate love it thought it was a 4runner too look after it
