Highest temp I saw on the trip was 182 when I was stuck in "traffic" in Nevada. It was about 80* air temp out. I was sitting with the AC on for about 5 min. Elevation was probably 4-5000 ft.

Not sure where temps are supposed to be but was almost always around 170-171

That's pretty low. Mine sits at a fairly constant 183f even when wheeling. Yesterday she climbed to 199f while I was going over the 74 (mountain route between Corona and the beach). I kind of wanted it to hit 200 to see if it would change colour...

Even in the mountains of Nevada where ambient temps were 78-80* it wouldn't climb higher. The radiator is brand new. Don't know if I should be alarmed that the engine is never getting warmer but it sits right at 170 most of the time. Today it hit 176 when I idled for a while.

While tearing out the alarm I did the pin 7 mod and added a CDL switch. Took off the clamshell that the PO had Gerry rigged in place and realized it was broken. Fortunately all the pieces were there. I used epoxy to put it back together, the same thing I did with my 92. I have a spare new clamshell I bought for my 92 that I planned on using when the epoxy failed. I bought it about 5 years ago...

Did the pin 7 mod and added the CDL switch. Pin 7 mod was a piece of cake. The CDL plug was buried behind the stereo so I pulled it. Was planning on replacing it anyway with something more modern and cool so I just left it out. Will pick up something from Best Buy tomorrow.

I was hoping the CDL switch would engage my lockers but it didn't. Still flashing lights. Need to do more diagnosing but it isn't a high priority. I think that it means it is the switch on the transfer case now that the CDL switch isn't engaging but I need to research more. If anyone has any input please advise.

That's what it was on mine.

What is this clamshell you speak of? I see the pics but I can't picture what it is our where it lives.

Steering column.

This is such an upper midwest thing to say... :)

I live in LA, and like to go 'wheeling in AZ. 78-80*F is basically cold...

No such luck for me. Exercised it. Nothing.
No, I mean it was the CDL switch on the transfer case. I was fortunate enough to have a good one to swap in for testing. That was the problem.

I'm assuming that is what it is. After reading the write up on Slee's website it sounds exactly like my problem. Going to order it tomorrow along with the distributor O ring and oil pump seal.

Ordered the dizzy o ring and oil pump seal from my local dealer. Ordering the tore screws from @Hornd.

Also ordered the CDL switch for the transfer case. Hope that solve my no lockers problem.

Got a quote to sandblast and powder coat my new rack. $275 for both blast and coat. Now just need to decide on a color...

Do you really need to sandblast a new rack? Just a light sanding will take care of it. Unless the powder coater insists on doing it right before coating it.

It was exposed to salt and whatever else along the way. Worth the $125 to have it blasted prior to powder. I thought about sanding it, wiping with MEK, and rattle canning it but figure it would take me 2-3 days of sanding and painting off and on. For $275 it's worth it to have them do it.

Lime Green!

J

Ha! I think I'm going to go black. For now. When I finally decide on a color for the rig (and have the money/time to paint it) I will just blast it and spray it to match the truck.

Did the distributor o ring the other day. Cut down the leaks somewhat but the oil pump cover seal definitely needs to be done. I have the seal but need to order the damn torx head screws from @Hornd. I keep forgetting.

Ordered some new hood struts and lift gate struts from @arcteryx aka Jason aka Cruiser Yard. As usual, excellent service and they work like a champ. And really can't beat the price.

Got my lockers to work! Installed the Center Diff Switch on the center diff. $18. Pushed the CDL switch on the dash. Turned the magic button and got rear lockers. Front wouldn't lock. Tried today in the rain and mud and voila! TRIPLE LOCKED! Woohoo!
