Thanks Martin. I'm glad to no longer have a bastardized illegitimate child! She's in the best shape she's been in since Bruce and I built her. She's great fun to drive again and I can't wait to see her sporting the SSRs!

I love Orange. :) :) :)

Way to go Rat puck, you know it sounds better to call it a dodge dealership than a jeep one,

You all ready for your trip, did you have to fix anythin on the vaccuum shutoff thing?

Thanks Jim. Thanks for your help/support...

True.

Orange's ass isn't dragging anymore.

Winch is fixed.

Almost ready. Just need to finish the compressor install and fix the temperature gauge (which could actually become a serious issue) and do some other small odd jobs. Switched some hoses around and now the VSV works flawlessly.

Ciao for now!

Time flies...

Getting Orange back onto the road was an interesting undertaking which saw me learning a lot, to say the least. I had given myself a year to get her back on the road and while I missed the deadline by about a month due to two unforeseen issues, all in all, I'm very happy with how this endeavor went.

The first thing I did was take her down to the car wash for a bath inside and out. Never will I put a vehicle in storage again and take the insurance off with it caked in mud.

I took off the skid plate and cleaned it up as well. I took off the driveshafts to have them properly lengthened/shortened. By doing so, I opened up a small can of worms that would hinder the AK trip a small amount. The truck had been grounding through the skid plate as the ground strap had frayed and ripped off. Found this out by turning the key and having smoke billow out from the dash. The temperature gague wiring was frying up as the truck started looking for alternate paths to ground. Whoops. Replaced the ground strap and all was good... with the exception of the fried temperature gauge.

A year prior to starting O's preparations for an OOP and for ACT 2010 I took her in for an inspection at one of the more lenient places in FSJ. They gave me a copy of the pre inspection sheet and there was far more ink than white spaces left on it.

The following lists what else was done prior to leaving for ACT2010:

- New custom rear shackles fabbed and installed
- New LED reverse lights
- New LED side marker lights
- New stock licence plate holder installed, and wired
- Rad repair
- New intake air shut off valve and rerouted (Yay! An ignition that finally shuts off with a key)
- New battery holders
- New rear hard brake line
- New rear soft brake line
- New front soft brake line
- TRE replacement
- New LED rear turn signal lights
- Adjusted emergency brake cable
- Rear brakes adjusted
- Rear brake cylinder
- Front bumper
- Rock Ram mounting system modified
- Repaired headlight switch
- Drilled out rear door hinges
- Repaired rear door mechanism
- Replaced front door mechanisms
- front door hinge bushings
- grill emblems updated :)
- Repaired exhaust
- New extended axle breathers
- New window tint
- Rear ARB locker set up and installed
- 24V ARB compressor installed
- rewired 24V 8274
- New rear shocks installed
- storage drawers
- ambulance door table
- 3 windshield wipers repaired (finally work exactly as they should!)
- air box installation
- snorkel
- roof rack
- New turn signal lenses
- bump stops
- windshield squirter
- wiring clean up
- rear brakes & axle seals
- fixed wheel stud
- frame rust repair (certified by shop)
- add a leafs
- driveshafts lengthened/shortened
- New temperature gague
- tightened wheel bearings
- rear pinion seal
- New speedo cable
- New rear door seals
- custom console mod for optimized dog gripping power :)
- and lastly... a set of new 35x12.5x15" SSRs and new chrome wheels.

My first post outlines the gong show associated with actually getting the OOP paperwork which in itself was the most stressful part of all of this considering the short period of time between receiving the plates and leaving for Alaska. I'm sure that there was more stuff done that I am not remembering now.

Thanks so much to everyone who helped me out along the way. You know who you are. ;)

So far it's been quite the year!!

Years ago when I first got my first 40 as a broke student I used to lurk on the RMLCA site. Really enjoyed the old trip reports and especially the photos. I thought Orange was pretty awesome then, bunch of interesting ideas I'd never seen before and inspiration for 'one day'. Great to see you're still at it.

Thanks!

Bruce and I built a great truck. The least I can do is make sure she gets better as she gets older. You can't imagine how great it felt to walk into my house after the trek knowing that I did it! Got her through an OOP, drove up to AK, went on the pre Run, did ACT, did the post run and drove home. Not bad for a :princess: :wrench::wrench:

Are you saying Orange is not awsome anymore? :hillbilly: geez your pretty mean Martin. Did you get a Moose up this way?
Cheers,
Deny

You mean he was up here and didn't say hi?? Blasphemy.

Yes, but with only 1 week off I detoured around FSJ (threw a few pics on FB if you guys are curious). The Peace country is sure nice in the fall. Before the damn windstorms tore the yellow leaves off the trees anyways. Shocking to see the amount of O&G development in the backcountry though. And yes we lucked out and found a good moose. How'd your dad's trip go?
