This one should be immersed in acrylic and saved for all eternity!! From the colorscheme, the VW bug indicators to the searchlight and the Jerrycan holders on the bumper, the detailwork is impressive, and bears the signature of years upon years of use. IMO one of the most charismatic cruisers I've seen :)

Im intrigued by the extra width cab:D It looks like they are bit behind the seats so you would have to climb forward to sit down,no problem with the extra 10 inches of width on each side.
I guess that would still work with the side airbags:hillbilly:

I had an intersting one for sale last year near me by 2 methheads:hillbilly: The outside was coated in a 5mm acrylic masonry coating that had sand in it:D
It had old govt railway seats in the rear with big windows like a rail carriage. The seats faced each way so you could have a 4 handed game of cards while your moving.
I was going to get a pic but I couldnt handle his wife's teeth grinding with such a wicked overbite:D

I have an updated picture of the project. I went with a Carbon fiber composite shell as I can make them readily. The entire shell weighs only 288 pounds. Pretty amazing. I had a friend make one up in aluminum but it weighed 80 pounds more and each one would have to be essentially a custom unit, whereas the carbon fiber composite is sleek, can be painted any color, is extremely strong, has integrated wiring harnesses and can be knocked out of a mold. In addition the entire unit is removable and the original top and sides can be place on the vehicle when not being used as a camper.

MO-Troopy. I really like the concept and I would love to see a modular system similar to Innovation Campers here in the U.S. that I could purchase and add to the back of my cruiser, however, I have concerns about the increased height. Would it be possible to use the Carbon fiber composite shell in a pop-up configuration versus hard sided? You really only need the sleeping compartment when you're stopped somewhere, so why burden the rig with the additional drag.

The rear "generator" spot puzzles me a little. First, it'll be quite outstanding behind you and parking in rear might me a little bit hazardous:doh:. And bear in mind that every heavy item (such as a generator) should be placed as low as possible, especially for an offroader. But I'm really interested in seeing how far this project will drive you. Keep the ideas coming:cheers:

Ditto. And a microwave and a stove? :confused:
Think small. A portable cole.man stove will do IMHO. I spent 15+ summers of my young life in such campers my old man made from scratch out of small pick-up trucks or microvans. A sink, a portable stove, bedding and that's it. You really want to keep things basic as you obviously don't own a Greyhound bus.;)

i am trying to build a camper shell for my hj 47, not been easy to find someone in the U.S. does carbon fiber composite come in sheets, where would you get it? i will research that myself. the other material that i learned about is the nida core i am also researching.
 
If that was a pop up camper, I'd be all over that. As it stands, that is a bit too much height for my needs.
