"F" is a reference to that early 50's engine series type and the "J" refers to the body style of the 1950's 4 Wheel Drive Land Cruiser vehicle
The F replaced the B 6cyl petrol engine (not to be confused with the B diesel engine) in 54/55 (starting with the FA Truck in 4/54)
The F started in the Land Cruiser 55'
The J is the 4wd land cruiser vehicle, The Land cruiser vehicle was designated the J as it was the Jeep series chassis
before it was Land Cruiser it was called the BJ for the B series engine + J (Jeep) series chassis.... before it was called the BJ it was called the Toyota Jeep... it was designated the BJ and the BJ and the special designation... like...
