I hope not. These type are being fitted to South Perth 4wd Rental vehicles.
Im noT sure if its steel or plastic but I guess the latter:rolleyes:
Bullbar owners here are under some pressure again,a 20 year old pedestrian stepped in front of a Dyna like truck and was killed and of course its all the fault of the bullbar
If there was no bullbar the truck would have stopped and given him a compassionate hug:D

man, that is seriously ugly.probably stop a lot of accidents/animal strikes because people will stop and look at the hideous bullbar.

sad that someone has died, but you are right. if you walk out in front of a (even small 3+ tonnes) truck, it will most likely kill you. bullbar or not

hey rosco, you must be happy the eagles won. or are you a dockers fan?

We are the West Coast ,West Coast Eagles and we are flying HHIIGGHH:D:beer::beer::beer:

It is and is going to eat some one..

This idea of pedastrian-friendly bullbar is already a law in germany.
If you are a lucky guy you can get a ARB-Bullbar through the technical inspection, but only with a appraisal and only this year.
No way for home brewed bullbars anymore, I am one of the last lucky guys who reacted before the law prevented a technical acceptance.

The next-gen bumpers here are plastic , too ...

Thats fawkin dumb. Stock bumpers even those soft car ones kill peds.

Poll your MPs guys. Fight back the legislature. Remember the dumb asses who pass these laws sit in offices wearing fn suits...

They are pushing for a complete removal here in city areas.
There is talk of having quick release pins to remove the bullbar when you enter the metro area, but no idea what you do with it then.:D
Leave it on the side of the road for the return journey perhaps?

Our biggest allies are farmers and country dwellers who have a strong political lobby and say their roo and bullbars make the roads safer for them to travel at night.

Personally I cant see my bullbar being anymore dangerous than the OEM 70 series bumper which concentrates all its impact on a smaller area

They made several crash-tests with the result that the soft plastic bullbar is even better for peds as a car without a plastic bullbar.
The problem is, those bullbars are not able to protect your car from damage on a trail-ride, it eventually leads to more damage! - this is such a bulls**t ... im happy to have my bar.

I've heard rumours of expanding the law all over europe and thats only because all these dumbasses with a bar on their mini-van or SUV which probably had never seen more than a dirt road to the grandfathers farm.

Nearly every 4wd in oz has a bullbar as most of the JDM units have them as standard these days so MPs tread very cautiously on the subject.
What has the MPs worried is if they limit the use of bulbars and then a country dweller gets killed as a roo comes through the windscreen because his vehilcle had no protection.
I think the govt will be happy to maintain the status quo after getting rid of the old army and homemade bullabrs with sharp edges a few years back.

The old army bullbars fitted to LR were made from flat bar welded into a frame, like a kind of people shredder:D

Having thoroughly whalloped a mid sized Eastern Grey last night, my alloy roo bar has served itself well. Not a mark on it which isn't bad for an 80kph impact. Mind you, I think I might get a steering alignment next week.

Re the plastic, yes they are safer at low speed impacts (apparently when most people are hit), however plastic nowadays (as a material) can be very strong.

A polycarbonate based bar has the potential to be as strong as steel, yet much lighter. Polycarbonate is often used by the military as a bulletproof material.
Not saying that they are perfect, but they are worth considering.......;)

I agree, surely there's middle ground between steel tubing and cheap plastic. A composite of some sort.

x2.
Also I think if there were less bars with fishing rod holders[that are hardly used, if ever] sticking out in front there would be less attention paid to them. These look dangerous.

I thought it was illegal to drive around with these on if not in use. Am sure this is the case in NSW.

But you can't possibly drive around congested cities without a tricked-out 4x4! What if it rains and you don't have a snorkel? How will you get up steep streets without a winch? You'll look pretty silly if you hit a toddler on a trike in your driveway and you don't have bullbars!

In WA its voluntary but there are idots who dont want to do the right thing
Once the govt starts to legislate then the spotlight on bullbars will be turned on.
