Well its time to do a real build thread, but this time it's for the wife. we are calling it the "B!tch's Build" but i didnt want to throw that out there in a thread title. if its too much let me know and i can change it.

Came up with a new name, its now the crispy cruiser and will be easy to find on instagram with #crispycruiser or the one we use for our shop #wefixthe6

will keep posting more as we do more work but its honestly a spare time project as we already have several 80s but not a white one and we all know white is the best color to have.

i picked up another 80 a while back to part out and and as i started to tear it down the wife made me stop and said she wanted to fix it for herself so here we are. This rig had a rough day a few months back after an engine fire. it came loaded with goodies like OME J springs, ARB lockers, 4.88s ect. we arent planning on doing much other than tossing some armor on it putting it back on the road as its already setup pretty well.

here is the point i left her at and we pick up from today with it sitting like this.

well as you can see the engine bay got pretty toasty and the whole harness is melted. well i guess the next step is to go to the part out trucks and grab a harness to replace this one. out with the old and in with the new. BTW 94 and older dash removal sucks. no pictures were taken because you can hear the profanity just looking at the pics.

You guys just dive right in. I love that. I am sure you will be fine.

Not sure if they burned or not, but I have a brand new set of fuel lines that I would send you for the price of the ride and a credit towards a nice gold passenger side front fender if you ever find one.

I have 4 obd1 rigs I get to pull parts from right now so I should be fine.

I have fenders but none are the color code you need ;)

We got to spend about an hour working on it again this afternoon. for those that have never removed the wiring harness from behind the dash... dont... its a huge pain and takes forever. it runs from half way down the inner fender, into the cab, behind the dash and then back out to the other inner fender.

out with the old, in with the new.

here we can see everything removed. you can remove the crash bar if you need more room but with 2 people its not so bad to snake it around the thing.

Once the new one was put back in we had to route it back into the engine compartment on both sides. i dont have a picture of the dash yet as only half the plugs are put back in. the driver's side has a good bit of stuff to connect and will take more than the hour or so we had today to mess with it.

We need to pressure wash the engine bay but i wanted to plug most of the holes in the firewall so we might as well just put the wires back in. the wife is much better at getting her arms in places like that than i am. maybe she can start helping me on my builds soon.

looking like fun! ill be ripping my harness out this winter and removing EVERYTHING not necessary
but wiring doesn scare me like it used to

No worries, I figured you were set and I don't mind just keeping my lines.

If you do come across the inner and outer fender in my paint color, please try to remember that I want one. If that future truck also has a clean hood, I would take that too! :p

Looks great so far! I can't imagine getting that deep into the wiring, but I can see that you guys are well seasoned!

Funny thing about the size of your wife's arms when it comes to reaching in little stuff...A guy once told me that the reason Asian bicycle rims and wheels became to prevalent was because the women had small hands and fingers, etc and it was really easy for them to lace wheels with spokes and tighten them up when compared to the ham handed louts on the male end of the spectrum, especially in the UK and France that were building wheels before that.

I think Oprah Winfrey would join me in saying, "You go girl!"

Good stuff!

did a little more this weekend. went and pulled a few engines and will do test on all of them to find which one seems the best but you never really know. ones is from @thatcabledude that i trust to run fine and the other 2 came from running trucks that i am parting out.

the worst part of the morning was pulling an engine in the field with the sun beating down on us. the tractor didnt really want to lift it but it did. it was not strong enough to pull the engine from the rig so we got creative and hooked up the engine hoist in the grass to lift and then used the tractor to pull it backwards to remove it. super sketchy and the wife got some great video of the truck falling off the jack stands and everyone laughing at me.

You might claim to be all about that cruiser life but unless you are willing to spend all of father's day on the road with a 5 year old to grab another parts rig then don't come at me with that half ass crap.

More parts to go to 1 of mine and the wife's. Will finally have a TOYOTA front end on my LX.

finally did enough work to actually post about it. i will be on vacation for the next week so i wont be posting any updates but the wife isnt going so i am sure progress will be made on the truck while i am out of town.

we wanted to get it out of the shop so i could pressure wash the engine bay and paint the driver's side fender to stop rust. to do that we needed steering so back in with the dash and steering wheel. first bolt she did was the one i didnt tell her about. i almost caught a wrench to the face when she finally figured out about the hidden bolt in the corner while i stood there with a big grin knowing it was there.

i know it doesnt look like much work but we are being extra careful to make sure all the wiring behind the dash is secure and to keep anything from rattling.

a little his and her's shot on how we ended the afternoon.

This is awesome! I showed this to Eily and she wants to build her own. You may have created a monster but I’m stoked she wants to tackle it.

I have a 94 that is a great fixer upper that I would let go cheap if you are serious. Runs, drives, clean title, 2k cash.

I appreciate the offer. I'm not ready to get her one yet. I do need to hit you up for some parts for mine. I'll shoot you a text. thanks

Cleaned up the engine bay with the pressure washer this morning. I used a por spray to cover the surfa e rust from the fire and then some minor paint work just to stop rust. Not a show quality finish but it is an old cruiser with monstaliner on the outside.
