Is this to clear the fin?

notches for ikamper mounting brackets. Thought about removing the load panels, but I like how much they strengthen the Prinsu crossbars.

Snagged a killer deal on an iKamper from REI, and it arrived in a week 😎

Was hoping to be able to keep the batwing up there, but there's no way it would fit.
Front mounts are accessible from the sunroof, but rears were a bit harder. This thing is legit!

And it’s an awesome treehouse + fort. There aren’t any side bracket options on that hard case?

Sleeps 4, right? What's your camping strategy with 4 little people + mom and dad?

mom + 4 kids in the rtt. I'll be in the rig on my MegaMat or in my hammock tent. Maybe I'm being overly paranoid, but I really wanted the kids off the ground and away from the hogs/cayotes.

What about gear? My roof rack is pretty full on camping trips.

Yea, I wasn't looking forward to losing the cargobox...

I'm going to run 3 car seats in the second row, one kid in the 3rd row. Thought about pulling one of the 3rd row seats (I'm really liking @TrekboxX's new half rack), but I got a hitch basket so may not need to do that.

two lethal hogs vs humans since 1996 in Texas. Before those the other 3 in last 100 years were do to hunting failures. But it isn’t zero. Damn pigs.

Casually prepping for the maiden RTT trip. Finally got around to securing the water and solar bits...

Spent 4 days in central Texas. Highs of 79 and lows down to 55. Ended up taking a ground tent, but wife/kids in ikamper + me in the rig would have been doable. Shout out to the pormido camera system! Just need to finish wiring it in.

All dirt roads and a few hills, but no real terrain. However, found a dirt pile to get obligatory flexing shot. I feel much better with my rear stuffing abilities now.

What are your thoughts on the ikamper so far? What did the family think about it?

Outfitted and stuffed to the nines! Looking good there. Must have been a sight rolling down the road. I don't think you forgot anything. If it's anything like me, someone in the family forgot something.

I'm going on a multiday trip with my camper as a base station, but will be car camping with a family of 4 for one night at the outer reaches of Death Valley. An iKamper would be the ticket. We're going to try the super minimalist approach for that night. Maybe even try to sleep four of us in the car.

i know there’s a love/hate relationship with RTTs, and I hate the fact that I lost 100% of my roof for my water cannon, awning, and cargo box; however, this thing is freaking amazing. I looked closely at Alu-cab and a few others, but no hard shells unfold this big (king size bed). Like all other tents, subtract one person from the advertised space to get a more realistic count. There’s no way 4 adults can fit up there, but my wife had it worked out to where she was able to be up there with all 4 kids- and enough buffer space so they weren’t kicking each other.

that being said, our $39 Magellan ground tent was also great. We ended up throwing all the bedding into it and we day-tripped over to Waco, Texas. I think I mentioned this before, but for me, having them up high was one of my main desires for safety (the ground being for creepy crawlies and nocturnal Predators).

the quality on every part is as good or better than anything I’ve seen. The zippers, for example, didn’t snag a single time. The canvas is stout, and all the hardware is solid. Aside from having to tuck the sides in during close, it literally takes less than 2 minutes to open/close.
Can’t wait to go on some real overlanding trips.... maybe next week.

Nice setup! Wife & I really enjoyed our ikamper this season, 30+ nights in it with a 3yr and 9 month old. Was nice for grizzly country and setting up in rain/snow. Noticed your stuffed to gills pic, that can get old quick to pack/unpack, esp on freq camp site changes. FWIW, I built a simple removable shelf that made life 1000% easier. Zip tie the two flanged feet to exposed 3rd row metal support on wheel well. Removes in a minute. Extremely stable. I keep the dometic or cooler (trip dependant) on bottom left.

We removed the ikamper mattresses for 3 exped reg megamats and put self adhesive carpet tiles (lowes) down for condensation. 3 expeds fill out floor perfectly, sleep warmer and more comfortable. Allows us to keep all the sleeping bags and bedding in rtt. Going to build a slim foldable cot (2.5ft folding out to 5ft) for one of our daughters to sleep above the base of our feet in RTT when a bit older.

Enjoy. Great looking build.

EDIT...oops, just noticed 4 kids, so u must have 3rd row installed behind all that gear? Shelf no dice then.

Yea, 4 kids (3,5,6,6). That picture has one kid in the driver’s side 3rd row, a 65 yeti and a big Plano storage trunk (dry food) where the other 3rd row seat sits. You’re seeing all the sleeping bags/pads shoved behind the 3rd row. It was our first full family camping trip, and the property was only 2 hours away so I wasn’t too worried about packing neatly. You might even see that the runts snuck in many random ski poles and shovels into the hitch basket last minute. Nothing a few extra winds of strap couldn’t hold down.
It was more of a test to see how much they’d like it and what gear we’d actually use/need.

One thing I ordered was an 18” hitch extender so I could open up the swing arms with that basket in place.

I also ordered a megamat duo with the latest 20% rei member coupon. I think people have made the duo + single work up there or do you think 3 singles is the way to go?

Makes sense. I just saw that pic, and thought that looks exactly like my rear cargo area during our first 6+ day trip with iKamper. Except unlike you, the entire cargo was full. We were way overpacked and I swore never again without a shelf. Royal pita on the frequent location changes lol.

I think duo would work great with a single. Duo goes in main area, length wise along front to back axis of truck. Then the reg single will fit snug on the smaller length fold out floor section. Your wife can sleep on the reg single, and then 4 kids head/toe orientation across the width of the 52" duo? 19" of sleeping width for each kid per 77" length of duo. We got 3 because my wife is jumping bean in her sleep. We were huge backpackers prior to kids, the shifting woke me up that we'd have to keep our hiking air beds a few inches apart. I'd feel her all night on a duo.
