"Tesla Style" found for older LX470/LC100

I picked up the extra OEM climate control ( thanks @ranma21 ), and started the process.

The good news: I think I was able to figure out transplanting the HVAC amplifier board and tying the provided harnesses together.

The bad news: I appear to have been provided the wrong stereo cable(s) (maybe for the LX ) because none of the "Tesla" stereo connectors match the TLC stereo connector :frown:

Same thing happened to me. I bought from Rhino Radios and the included harnesses dont fit anything at all.

Did anyone have any luck finding any kind of manual for these radios?
My uncle bought one of those units from Rhino and it came with instructions at all, but at least most of the wiring harness seems to fit, although I'm having issues with the climate control. They did reply rather quickly via facebook but after I asked about installation manual (that supposedly is supposed to be emailed to the buyer's email address upon purchase...) and then they stopped responding.

For my 2006 (with nav), I used an existing part of the original HVAC board (board with 3 plugs on black piece) with the new 12.1 Tesla. I have a 98 100 series too, so I'll take a look at the A/C components later after tackling some of the issues (airbag light not turning on on right side panel, sound not working) on this 12.1 Tesla. Some other things I noticed were some of the wires/pins don't match (but plug up), and there are a lot of other plugs not used (holding in hand below).

So has anyone installed this on a non screen? I have a 99 looking to improve for road trips.

Avoid it as flaming hell. I spent the whole day trying to figure out the HVAC controls, and eventually gave up, restored it to the defaults (apart from the cameras I installed) and I'm going to advise my uncle to buy a real double din pioneer/alpine/somethingnotchineese instead.

For a "non-nav" "3 knob" 2000 TLC, I haven't been able to get a cable from China, that looks anything like the OEM stereo plug. I'd suggest avoiding the pre-2003 Tesla screen at this point.

We're still running a double DIN Android head unit in my son's vehicle, and pretty happy with it.

You got the AC to work? What components did you transplant?

Well, that’s kinda hard to say, as the android box doesn’t “power up” without the proper stereo connector.

Sorry I meant how did you get the A/C (HVAC) to work. I’m thinking about getting a Tesla 12.1 for the 1998 LC, but had concerns about the HVAC not working.

I got the OEM board transplanted, and think I got it properly cabled, but without the Tesla screen powering up (because the supplied stereo connector doesn’t fit the OEM stereo plug) I don’t know if it will work or not.

I’m working with the “engineer” from China where I bought mine. He wants me to take a detailed picture of each OEM connectors (wires/pins) and OEM hardware connections (nav screen , radio, airbag, antenna, center diff lock, and A/C). I wonder if the seller will do the same for you to get the right connector(s).

That would be amazing if it were possible, and I would be happy to pay for the correct cable, my Chinese “engineer” seems to have gone MIA/AWOL.

If everything works out for the 2006, I’m going to buy the 1998-2002 non-nav Tesla 12.1 from them for my 1998 LC. I’ll probably take a picture of the connectors first, so they can confirm the cables.

I've been following this trying to get a feel for whether or not the pre-03 non-nav unit is worth it. If I'm understanding correctly, is the issue everyone is having mainly lack of matching connectors on the provided harnesses? My Nakamichi harness has long been hacked to bits and that doesn't worry me, so long as there's a decent wiring diagram. I'll happily make up my own molex connectors to match.

Any comments on the function and/or durability of the units themselves?

Yes, I’m debating building my own connector, but haven’t been motivated enough yet.

Vendor supplied wiring diagram ?

Digging back into it a bit, it looks like it may be possible, to build an adapter between the Chinese Android harness and the 2000 Toyota Land Cruiser stereo connector, by using:

Metra 71-8112 15 Pin Reverse Factory Radio Harness
Metra 70-8113 Amplifier Integration Harness
With a little wire tracing, splicing, dicing, and soldering...

I already have a double handful of the 70-8113, but I guess I'll have to order a couple of the 71-8112 to give this a try.

I think that I am now able to prove my theory that the pre-2003 Tesla screen's wiring harness is setup for the Toyota 15-pin connector. With a Metra 71-8112 adapter, to emulate the car side of the connection, I am able to "fire up" the system on my work bench:

I'll wire up a "15-pin" to "20-pin" adapter tonight, and try installing it tomorrow...

After eight weeks of playing around with the support team I’m mailing it back it just doesn’t work for 2000 Land Cruiser unless you’re willing to build all of your own harnesses

Just to confirm, it will work with 2003 - up LC and or LX470 - with minor splicing? Thanks and sorry to hear it didn’t work.
