Planning on attending the 100 in the hills trip in a few weeks. Need to start acquiring items for primitive camping. First thing up is a tent. I've done some research online and have learned there are lots of options and lots of price points. I'm considering both new and used.

Can anyone help with recommendations? I don't expect to use the tent on a regular basis (couple times a year at the most). Some priorities in a tent are:
Water proof
Would like at least one vestibule
Large enough for 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children
Easy set-up and easy storage
Free standing
Good ventilation
<$200

I'd like the best test for the money.

I found a returned REI Kingdom 4 in this price range that is supposed to be in very good condition (no defects). Anyone have experience with this tent and whether it meets my priorities? It's located 2.5 hours from me so I don't want to make the trip and find that it doesn't fit the bill.

Any other tent recommendations?

Thanks

For a sub $200 tent you can't go wrong with a gently used REI.

Check out kirkhams...based out of salt lake. Springbar tents...Tents r canvas. Will be more than 200 but will last a lifetime!

I second this. I have the Kodiak and I couldn't go another route, if I were in your shoes. I plan on getting a Springbar Campsite 3 soon.

Don't buy from REI! They are a huge donator to shutting down our public land! They hate 4x4's

And you're paying for lightweight which isn't really a factor off roading. Go for space and weatherproof.
