g'day lupdog - not sure i've chatted with you before? that chassis request a typo you meant 67 not 62? got a couple good later 60's chassis (fj45) over here - at my disposal if not in my possession but they a long long way away from the queensland floods.

on the backburner my brothers got a lovely 62 cab, with a scrappy chassis, and a gearbox with a busted column shift transfer case.... so if we head east (again) in the next year or so... with a cartrailer... what sorta beer you drink fwed?

No, we have not chatted before but I am new to this part of mud. I managed to get hold of a '62 cab (no typo) not so long ago and figured it was rare enough not to do something with it. I'd like to get it somewhere close to stock and to do that an earlier the better chassis would be a great starting point. I have a thread here in the 25 section that tells the full story:

apologies lupdog; i have since found and read your thread re 62 cab. they are a rare beast. my brother and i have most of one ( 0 FJ45 11235 ) it has been dismantled by someone many years ago but certainly a worthwhile project. i found most of it scattered across a the farm rubbish tip. a 62 bezel was on an old 70s tojo on the farm next door! (reckon its gotta be from it). my frame is rough but repairable but the main missing piece is the transfer box housing which has been left sitting in some corrosive soil and rotted the lower part of the housing completely away. i also have the original tray. i believe it is an australian made well bodied type.

in other news i started tinkering with my old fj25 tray last night. have promised myself to finish my 64 before i get too excited but be nice to get it mobile. i dismantled both master cylinders, slave cylinder and a sample wheel cylinder to take when i head down to the city later in the year. most things are very solid, this old tojo has been sitting a long time. some careful use of the oxy on all the brake lines worked wonders and i got everything apart without any damage. the clutch master will need sleeving.

one trick i used was to sacrifice an old 40 series union bolt (the bolt with the hollow fluid cavity up the centre that attaches the brake line to the wheel cylinder). i cut this and then carefully welded a grease nipple onto the end. it is then possible to use the hydraulics of a quality grease gun to free up siezed wheel cylinders and also the slave cylinder. soak them with a penetrant for a time first. did this on my 64 and associated parts wreck untill i found enough servicable units. it works well

g'day mud punters! just west aussie checking in here. been away this last 3 monthes or so on a remote fencing contract; my standard camped in the scrub with a good fire, an old caravan, a couple backpackers and a fleet of 2h diesel work utes. do check in on you all now and again but havnt had time to turn a spanner myself (not on the hobby toyotas anyway). however i do have in my possession a sleeved master cylinder, rebuilt original brake shoes and enough associated buckets and boots to reassemble all the hydraulics on my 25 tray. just get it mobile for now is the plan. only ran the motor up for a waterless minute but sounds good and i got complete faith. water plumbing and front to back oil change is the final order. and a good clean... and perhaps some pinion seals... and a matching set of prettier secondhand rubber... and etc!

Hi West aussie, good to see you are getting the 25 driving again, mines on hold for a wile, i am doing the hj47 exarmy first, another 6 months. And you trust those backpackers to drive your cars. In our hire troopies i find the girls are better drivers,less damage.

g'day mud punters. christmas and new years greetings to all. if the 25 hollow doesn't mind i have decided to create a new little thread dedicated to the 1964 fj45 i have been slowly tidying up. i feel much more at home over here with the early and original enthusiasts. this thread may not be greatly technologically informative but i hope it may be of some entertainment to you all. and it is wonderful computer practice for old technologically challenged west aussie i can tell you. had the nephews trying to teach me how to scan photos and such recently (while they home for christmas) so my desk is a sea of cords and my head a sea of confusion. last year i had to drag an fj25 across the continent and into my stable just to gain a little credibility in the hollow haha so trusting i may introduce PROJECT PATINA in a new thread.

Credibility is not an issue.............don't want to start a turf war between the 45 and 25 section though...........could get messy. ;p Seriously, love to see more of the project but try it in the 45 section if they throw you out we'll move you over here. Have the nephews lead the way.
