I have a question for those familiar with the FJ45LV. I have a chance to pick-up a clean '67. I'd like to put disc brakes up front and maybe a few other, reversible, mods to improve it's driveability. Things like a 4-speed and eventually a 3FE. I currently have an '84 FJ60 as a potential parts donor. I also found a '77 FJ40 yesterday for short money.

Which would you reccomend for a parts donor? I thought I remember reading about the 60 series axles being wider by a few inches. Any advice is greatly appreciated. And my apologies if I've offended anyone with plans to modify a classic.

Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob,

Yes, the 60 axles are wider, the 40 would be my choice. The bolt pattern for the drive shaft is going to be different (give Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters a call) on both the 60 and 40 axles. The FJ40 can be used for front end sheet metal on the LV as well. The motor and trans combo will be more user friendly and better power. It is your cruiser, do what you want with it you can't worry what others think, they are not driving it!!

Put up some pics of the new ride.

Thanks for the input. I was thinking the 40 would be a better choice but needed those with experience to confirm. I'll post pics as soon as I put the pieces together. I'm really getting excited. My garage has been empty since the Willy's wagon left and my early Bronco's found new homes. Any advice on power steering set ups?

Stay tuned viewers...:)

Hi 2wheelbob, what year is the 40? the early ones had the ball and claw fronts and a few other oddities, something to consider itf it is pre '68. Pics? Wish you luck on getting the Wagon on the road. Eric C.

The LV is a '67. The body's in good shape but it needs brakes and carb work. I figured I'd do the upgrade to disc first thing and possibly put a 2F in it while I search for a 3 FE. Just a few random thoughts on my behalf. I still have to go see it in person but I trust the current owner. He's pretty meticulous about his cruisers.
