Tried everything I could think of via search but still can't locate the thread from a few months ago about substituting the early 4Runner tailgate window seal instead of using the expensive FJ55 reproductions. Can anyone help?

Is this the article you are looking for? Found it a few nights ago myself. Thought it might be the answer for me as well but I'm thinking about just spending the money with Slocruiser. After taking the time to get the rust knocked down and primed, I want everything as sealed up as possible and the only way to do it is with the original design. Just my opinion.

Guys I just bought one of these from Cabe Toyota:

FJ55 REAR TAILGATE UPPER WINDOW RUN

Cost $220. Much cheaper than slocruisers option, from what I can tell. Nice piece of rubber. Fits perfect.

I bought the window felts from JCWhitney, the ones recommended in the weatherstripping thread. I haven't installed them yet so I don't have much to report on how well they work.

Hey Mars, what is the part number at JCWhitney? You'll save me the trouble of the search through that thread. Nice rubber dude!:p

 Thanks. I get that all the time.

I'll post up the full order sheet from JCWhitney when I'm done fitting it and making sure it all works. Here is the inner and outer tailgate window felts...keep in mind I haven't installed these, no clue how they work yet.

Inner Tailgate: ZX193480P
Outer Tailgate: ZX819752R

Cool. Inner meaning the part inside the tailgate and outer meaning the part above the tailgate? I should look at this on mine. I still have decent rubber, but tore out all the half-arse felt that kept bunching up when I rolled up my window. I don't use the window much in the winter as it moves rrreeaaallly ssssllloooowwww and then the capacitor triggers in this cold weather.

Cheers for the info. Did you get the carb?

Sorry for the confusion...the 'inner' is the window felt on the interior side of the top of the tail gate, where the window comes out of the slot...outer is the outside portion. Yup, got the carb, thanks!

Thank you!

Thanks, crackedup. Exactly what I was looking for. I found a good upper glass run at a PickNPull, used NAPA 770-3173 (about $19) to seal the bottom and sides of the tailgate, found a brand new OEM felt in a batch of parts I bought (along with OEM cargo and windshield rubber) and will try this solution across the top of the tailgate.

No problem riderjgs. Glad I could be of help. Heaven only knows I'll probably need advise somewhere down the road. Just picked up my first piggy a few weeks back and it only had 2 or 3 pieces of weatherstripping left on the whole thing. Got what I could from Cabe and I've been digging through the forum every night looking for options with everything else. I may have to get creative.

Good find on your upper glass run. Didn't happen to find any vent window weatherstripping in new condition did you? :grinpimp: Good luck with the tailgate!!!

Geez, Sorry Jim I have been trying to find this thread ever since you pm'd me. Glad someone was on it. I just saved it in my bookmarks.

Can you post pics of your scores? I am curious what the napa part looks like and how well it fits. TIA:cheers:

Truck looks awesome Jim, You driving it to cruise Moab?
You guys did a great job.

Depends on how much mechanical sorting out I can get done. Drivetrain and chassis only has a few hundred miles in the last 8-10 years but seems strong, need to get the rest of the interior together, especially the heaters, and just start driving it. Picking up a Ranger overdrive this weekend. But may come down to CM on a camping only basis.

Love to see it out and about, If you do come down and are interested you can catch a ride with me a run a few trails in my rock crawler.

That is the same seal that I got from SLOCRUISER how much was it from JC whitney? I'M STARTING TO FELL THE PENETRATION?

Dude I think SloCruiser is getting it from JCWhitney and repackaging the product an marking up the price. I hope like hell thats not the case! Fj55 guys is a small group of people and that wouldn't be right.

Not unless Slocruiser is buying it from Whitney and re-selling it to NAPA, which in turn retails it for less than $20. NAPA part number is further up in the post...comes with enough to do both sides and the bottom.

Ok, I'm not trying to hijack the thread but isn't the piece that comes from Slocruisers one solid piece that goes across the top and then down the sides? Or is it three pieces? One across the top and one for each side.
