Don't do it.

I assume you will be throwing a lot of power at them. Subs need to be in a very rigid cabinet, which a tailgate isn't. It will flex a lot, vibrate like crazy, and suck a lot of the power. The volume is too small, even for a sealed enclosure.

Cutting the holes in the gate will ruin the structural integrity. I think yours is a liftgate, which means you will be slamming them a lot. The heavy weights of the magnets will bend the crap out of the sheetmetal.

When I bought my FJ62, some idiot had put a pair of 6.5" speakers in the tailgate. Hacked all the supports out of the middle. It was all bent and caved in, looked like hell.

Don't do it.

thx for the suggestion.i plan on reinforcing the whole enclosure with fiberglass.

I don't think you read my post.

Fiberglass is not a reinforcing material. It is a covering material. It would be like taking all the studs and framing out of your house and expecting the siding and roofing to hold it up. Even a boat hull has a steel skeleton inside it to give it strength.

Did you read the part about it begin too small?

Did you read the part about you ruining your speakers from slamming the gate?
