in larger camping trips with lots of friends - the back of our cruiser always ends up being party central. We have camp tables and chairs all over the place - but the tailgate ends up being food prep area - or cocktail making station - probably because of good lighting and music.

i've often thought it'd be good to have the tailgate covered in richlite cutting board material - just use it as a cutting board - clean it up when done.

I've been pondering this as an idea:

the material is called richlite - and these cutting boards are by a company "epicurean" (shown just for example of the colors)

it's nice quality, hard, durable material that ages well. I think folks are starting to turn it into countertops as well.

it's a bit pricey - but it would look great with some stainless hardware holding it down.

I'm trying to figure out a cheap way of covering the tailgate with something flat so I can set a beverage down without spilling. Am leaning toward a sheet of aluminum screwed/riveted down. Anyone come up with something more elegant? I've seen many of the storage solutions but I'd rather not cut and storage isn't my goal. I'd like to keep this thing non-permanent, if possible.
just a thought but how about Velcro .. half inch azak or plexi type or aluminum from depot
