So, I searched and read a few threads on this and just want to make sure I understand this correctly. If my t case is just leaking, but my speedo/odo work fine, I should be able to just buy the Sleeve Sub Assembly for around $20- 30ish. Does that sound correct? Thanks, Dan.
According to some of the threads I've read, that is kind of hard to do? No? Easier and cheap to swap the sleeve assembly, or am I off base? Thanks for the reply.
Also, I assume I will need to drain the t case for this job, correct?

Remove cable, take bolt out, pull away keyed tab, pull sensor out (be careful), replace oring, put sensor back, put keyed tab in, put bolt back in and replace cable.
Very easy! I just did mine last week and it took me all of 10 mins to do it. My o-rind was so bad that it was brittle and crumbled while removing it. No more leak! Al least not from there
There is no inner o-ring. There is a lip seal that rides on the speedo gear shaft which also happens to look just like a valve guide seal for other vehicles....say maybe an early corolla...?
I did this last weekend. Could not find an O ring for that size locally, calling Dan would mean I have to wait two weeks (almost). So I dug up my old "distributor O ring" from my stash (I try not throw things away) and with some 75W-90 and 5LBS soft motivation, it went in . Been driving around for couple days now...leak is gone. It will probably leak again the first time I hit the trail but for now it's good.
If you take the sensor out and pull the gear assembly apart, make sure not to lose anything!
I changed mine today, and I swore I felt something fall out and hit my foot. I didn't see anything so I reinstalled the gear and clip, and replaced the O-ring. I put the unit back in, but the speedometer wouldn't work at all. After a bunch of reading and puzzling, I saw Slee's instructions for replacing the gear- it mentioned a square piece. I looked up and literally saw the piece laying on the ground near where I'd felt it hit my shoe earlier. Kind of a weird event!
Anyways, here's a picture of it- the end with the tooth goes into the keyed part of the gear shaft. Don't forget it!
Bumping this old thread to say thanks for the guidance on the 'how-to' as well as the required OEM part number (@Onur ). Swapped out the old O-ring for a new one yesterday afternoon and everything appears to be working fine (and dry!).
There is an inner seal in that assembly as well. The new one comes with both a new inner seal and a new outer O ring. If you're R&R'ing your T-case, I suggest replacing both. The inner seal is a challenge to remove and reseat, but you're in there, so why not do it right? Alternately, you can just buy the new assembly. In terms of time and ease, frankly it's worth it to just buy the assembly. The price for both seals is probably over ten bucks. YMMV.
