I could very easily be talked into that trip again. Especially the Lead King Basin trail.

I agree. The shot below if from that trip. I love that valley that Lead King lead us to. I think I would spend a few months there, just soaking it all in.

... Any update on weekend plans?

I'm still thinking that even though it's a holiday weekend, the 24th is a go. Not sure of the specifics yet...should probably start trying to hammer some of those details out. I'll see if I can't find out a bit more about that area and what it has to offer in the way of meeting spots, camping, potty holes, etc.

Anyone be interested in a Sunday run? There are some interesting trails that go from the Switzerland Trail area down to I-70. ???

I'll find out exacts on when I get back into town that Friday. Then I'll know what time I'll make it over into the Boulder area. Only plan on staying Friday night up there though.

Has anyone considered whether or not these trails are open yet? Some of the trails up north are not open until mid June. I noticed Middle St Vrain is very close. Awesome trail.

Well Switzerland itself is not listed on Bushducks.com, however most all of the trails in the Boulder National Forest that are listed seem to be listed as open around the middle of May in past years. When listed as impassable it seems to be isolated snow drifts in the trees. With as flat as Switzerland looks I dont foresee any issues but I really dont want a repeat of the whole Slaughterhouse Gulch fiasco!

I am not certain but I am betting it's just fine there. There is a few Fjc's possibly meeting us up there. Not sure if any are camping yet. Some might cancel depending on work.

Not sure about all of the trails we are wanting to do, but Rob and Basil said that they ran Switzerland the same week we all did Chinamans.

It sounds like 2-3 fj's want to meet up with us some place we will just need to figure out where.

Cool. Wish I knew the area better. Anyone with any ideas for a good meeting spot?

Bushducks.com added Switzerland to its list. As of 5/4/14 it is listed as OPEN and clear except for a couple of small snow patches!:bounce::bounce:

Here is some Info I got from one of the Fjc guys

In the Boulder Ranger District, there definitely are places to camp, but it is sort of limited to specific areas...
Campgrounds
Dispersed
Looking at the MVUM for the BRD, it lists both 120J and 93 (which account for the southern, middle, and northern segments of the ST -> LINK) as open for dispersed camping according to their statement...
"Motor vehicle use off of designated roads for the purpose
of dispersed camping is permitted for up to 300 feet from
the centerline of the road allowing the same vehicles as
the road allows and for the same season as the road is
open.
"

Even along this road there are places that are excluded though.....like Mt. Alto Picnic Area. It would be a perfect spot for camping, but it is not allowed at 'Day Use' places like this.
It would still be a great place to meet up for a picnic-lunch though.
Google Maps Sat-view
Potential camping spots...
here, this general area (with Gold Hill Rd to the north and ST to west and south) \, and here (though it's out i the open)
I think the majority of good campablespots are probably in the southern section, like
here, here, here, here (one of my favorites; back in the woods, but up on a bit of a hill with good views too), here, and here
Then, there are places in the NF just south of the southern segment of the ST in this area, like here, here, here, here, and here.

Ugh... I'll go through all of that when I've got a few hours to kill. ;)

Seriously though, thanks for the research. The girls and I are looking forward to this trip. :steer:

Yup I am going to try to look at it tonight. He does a great job with getting info and planning things out. I don't even think he is planning on coming out and he did all that for you Travis. It's because your special :hillbilly:.

Do we have a time everyone is planning on getting up there that Friday the 23rd? I get back into town at 8:00am that morning. We had planned on tooling around Denver until it came close to meet up.

Also I have a $50 Baofeng ham radio on its way. Figured i would start there and see if i get in to it i'd get a better one. I figured I'd ask if it would be acceptable for me to use it for trail communication on the trip. Thought I'd get the clubs blessing before I went all Pirate Radio.:poof::poof: In the mean time I will be studying up to get my license.

Bring your radio and listen along. It'll be a great way to learn HAM etiquette. Talking on a HAM radio without an FCC license cannot be condoned by the group.

There is such a thing as a "third party communication" where a licensed HAM could let you use their call sign, but I would have to be sitting next to you so if you said something wrong, I could slap you in the face and take possession of the radio. Lol. :moon:

Not sure of our plans yet. Especially with this "Spring" weather we're having. ???
