So I have a 69 fj40 with a 76 2f and I need a new alternator and vr. I read in a forum here that you can swap in a later model alternator with an internal regulator and just connect 2 wires together and the igniton wire to the new alternator? Is this right? I just want to make sure I'm not getting in over my head once I find one of these things.

My wiring diagram looks like this right now. Which seems a little different from the Coolerman instructions. Im thinking the big wire that goes to the amp meter and battery gets reused? Then I know the ignition gets pluged into the new alternator. That leaves ground as the question?

Edit: Or am I right in thinking that the alternator is self grounded to the bracket and with a internal regulated there is no need for a second ground now? Just battery and ignition wire?
