Went in for my yearly state inspection sticker and they informed me my front struts are completely blown out, failed inspection. On the way into the shop I was cut-off in traffic and the safety sensor caused the brakes to lock up and the front dipped significantly, I was 'shocked' to say the least. I realize they were probably leaking for a while, but that definitely sealed the deal for me.
I'm running OME BP51 and I can feel every single bump and they are washy and floating off bumps at speed...I've been using it sparingly the last week, great excuse to pull the FJ40 out. The front feels like it might if you lowered all the adjustment settings. Something I never did play with because the BP51 are so difficult to tinker with on the fly, my main reason for not buying another new set for the front end.
I'm going to try out the Dobinsons MRR this time around. I'm looking to install everything on Thursday this coming week and I'm looking for advice on a few things.
1. Front springs? I have an ARB front bumper with 12k winch w/ synthetic line, LP9 lights. I have been told to order the C59-544 version, but I wanted to see what others have done. I realize the reload for these are to be set to zero. When I installed the BP51 I recall moving from the recommended 10mm to 15mm to achieve the proper lift/level. I'm curious if anyone would recommend the C59-568 version instead? I noticed some retailers stock it for people wanting a full 2.5 of lift up front. I'm trying to match my already existing OME 2722 (I think) and I want it to sit mostly level, definitely not sagging in the rear.
2. Settings? I assume there will be some out of the box suggested settings for the install, but I'm curious how folks have these dialed in? I drive a mix of slow speed dirt roads and washboard, but also high speed back roads with massive bumps and potholes. The road to my house is almost 2 miles and has swallowed a tacoma whole (photo for attention) and like I mentioned above I carry some weight. I have the ARB front, winch, lights. In the back I have ARB drawers, fridge/freezer, full size spare, etc. I usually carry a couple bikes on a 1up rack. I also run a GFC Superlite on a Gamiviti full expo pretty much 3 seasons.
3. Tricks or Tips? Anything else I might need to know about the install? Anything I might be missing? Traveling to make this install happen so I'm trying to make sure I have everything lined up.
4. I will likely be selling my BP51 setup to the highest bidder, providing I like the MMR. What are people doing for rebuilds?
